The platform was created in July 2008 by Steve Schwarz to address the frustration of finding relevant agility terms using general search engines.
Googility operates as a community-maintained website, similar to Wikipedia, where users can add and update information about agility-related businesses and websites without requiring a login. All submissions and edits are moderated to ensure accuracy and prevent inappropriate content. The search functionality is powered by Google Custom Search Engine and Google Map API, providing agility-specific results and mapping capabilities.
Accomplishments
Googility was created by Steve Schwarz and AgilityNerd LLC, launching in July 2008. The platform utilizes the Django Python web framework for its development.
Web search functionality is performed using the Google Custom Search Engine (CSE) API, while the map search feature is implemented via the Google Map API. All website information is stored in a PostgreSQL database, which feeds both the CSE and Map APIs.
