Gunnison Kennels provides a range of training programs and services. Single Session Lessons, including Basic and Advanced Obedience, are conducted in fully fenced yards or other private locations to ensure a controlled training environment, avoiding public areas with uncontrollable distractions.

Their intensive Boot Camps are designed for dogs needing a “reset” or a solid foundation of skills. The Puppy Boot Camp (for dogs 12 weeks to 2 years) is a 15-day program covering potty training, crate training, basic commands (sit, down, stay, recall, bed), leash manners, drive evaluation, beginner socialization, livestock exposure, and car ride manners. The Basic Boot Camp is a 20-day program focused on unlearning negative behaviors and establishing foundation obedience skills, leash manners, recall, car manners, public socialization, addressing unwanted protection behaviors, fear responses, dog socialization, and house manners. The Advanced Boot Camp is a 30-day program for high-intensity needs, including fear-based aggression, dog or handler aggression, and bite work/guard training, with limited slots and individualized plans. Owners are encouraged to participate in weekly sessions during boot camps or receive regular photo and video updates.

Daycare options include standard group play and solo daycares for reactive or geriatric clients, offering indoor and outdoor play, feeding, and flexible pick-up/drop-off times. Boarding services provide spacious 5×6′ runs, up to three daily feedings, and free roam with socialized dogs, with a specialized Reactive Dog Boarding option for dogs needing extra care and isolation from other dogs.

Testimonials

“My brother’s German Shepherd tragically lost her person when he passed suddenly. She was unsocialized around people and other dogs and clueless when it came to basic obedience.James and Meg took her into their care and turned her around 100%. They gained her trust and worked with her so that now she loves to be with other dogs, is great with kids, and confidently strolled into Safeway with her new person to pick out some hot dogs. I will be forever grateful to them.”

“Gunnison Kennels in Grand Junction gave my 8mo Golden Retriever dog a fantastic place to stay and have fun while we had fun at Country Jam. James and his wife let him romp around their huge fenced yard, meet goats and chickens, play with their kids and make some new dog friends. It’s was great to know he could be part of their pack! It was in the 90s and they had a pool and sprinklers for him so he stayed cool. He really wasn’t too excited to leave when we picked him up lol. I would happily use them again for boarding or training next time we are in town. Thanks, James!”
– Rochelle Dammel

“I have 3 dogs and it was obvious when we picked them up how much they were loved while we were gone. Each of them is so different and James was great about adapting their care to their personalities and quirks so they felt as at home as possible. We will definitely be using Gunnison Kennels in the future!”
