Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Positive Reinforcement Only

Happy Tails to You Dog Training offers a variety of programs tailored to different needs, including group classes, private training, and intensive board and train or day training options. Group classes, currently paused until August, include Basic Beginner for puppies and new dogs, covering fundamental commands and socialization, and Graduate classes for advanced skills and problem-solving. Each group class is six weeks long and costs $435.

Private training sessions provide individualized programs for basic obedience up to aggression issues, starting with an initial 90-minute consultation for $450, followed by $300 per hour for continued lessons. The consultation fee can be waived if five or more future lessons are prepaid.

Intensive programs, offered through Canine Corral, include Board and Train Basic, Day Training Basic, Aggression Rehabilitation, and Behavior Modification. The Board and Train Basic Program, priced at $5790 (weekends home) or $6590 (stays weekends), is a three-week, five-day-per-week program focusing on public manners, leash walking, recall, and stays for dogs without severe aggression. The Day Training Basic Program, at $3990 for three weeks (four days/week), offers obedience and manners training during daycare, serving as a jumpstart or refresher.

Specialized intensive programs address more complex issues: the Aggression Rehabilitation Board and Train Program ($7590) is for dogs with growling/snapping behaviors, focusing on structure and impulse control, while the Behavior Modification Board and Train Program ($7090) targets issues like excessive barking or mild leash reactivity by building confidence and teaching alternative behaviors. Both rehabilitation programs require dogs to remain in care on weekends. All intensive programs include an exit training session with a video and two follow-up sessions within 30 days, emphasizing the crucial role of owner consistency and practice.

Testimonials

“I’m not sure how many nice things I can say about Dawna, her expertise, and her amazing service. A delicate situation with our dog and she was nothing but professional and empathetic. Countless phone calls helping us through some tough circumstances, always putting our dog and family first. Our initial meeting with her could not have been sweeter, with a special blanket laid out, the best chew treat to keep our girl busy while we talked. Although Dawna made it seem casual, I could tell she was constantly watching and learning our girl’s cues to give her the very best assessment and guidance. Although we were too far away to continue training, Dawna has continued to check in on our progress and has had a genuinely caring presence. She is more than a trainer, she is an asset to any dog family that. I have and will continue to recommend her.”
– Stacey

“I brought my 2.5 year old German Shepherd to the beginner’s dog training class because I just adopted her from the shelter and wanted to get her in a habit of good behavior and wanted her to socialize with other dogs. This class is in a small group setting and I felt I learned a lot in the 6 weeks. Dawna is very energetic and knowledgeable about dog training. She knows how to explain the whys behind each command that we are learning so that the whole group understands! The higher the distraction, the higher the reward was the best tip I learned to keep my Lyla motivated to learn more! Would recommend her classes to anyone who is looking to train their dog! The staff is also great and patient with all the dogs there!”

“Had an initial private training with Dawna. She is fantastic. She is extremely intuitive and knowledgeable about dogs, and their owners, and was quickly able to give us a lot of advice to incorporate right away to support our dog’s training needs. Can’t recommend scheduling time with her enough.”
