Harvard’s K-9 Center offers a range of training programs designed to enhance the bond between dogs and their owners. Group Obedience Classes, lasting six weeks for $180, teach basic commands like Sit, Down, Stay, Come when called, Loose leash walking, No jumping, No mouthing, and “Go to a place and stay there” on a 6 ft. leash in a large outdoor field. Dogs must be at least 4 months old and vaccinated, and owners can return for free brush-up sessions after completing a class.
Private Training Options are available for dogs not suited for group settings or owners needing flexible schedules, tailored to specific issues or advanced commands. The In-Kennel Training is a 4-week intensive program where dogs stay at the facility and are trained daily on basic obedience, including “Wait at doors and gates” and “Go into a crate,” using 6-foot and 26-foot long lines amidst distractions like other dogs, people, and sheep. Dogs must be at least 5 months old, fully vaccinated, and on flea/tick preventative, with graduates receiving free access to Group Obedience classes.
Agility classes, available from beginner to advanced levels, focus on strengthening the dog-owner bond through an obstacle course, building dog confidence. Group agility classes return in September/October 2025, requiring dogs to be at least one year old with basic obedience, and puppy agility classes are also offered. The center also hosts AKC Agility Course Test (ACT) Level I & II trials for dogs 15 months or older.
Dock Jumping involves dogs competing in jumps into a regulation-size pool, with lessons available for all levels from new swimmers to competitors. The dock and pool can be rented for individual or group use, including therapeutic swimming, with life vests provided. Group dock classes are held on Wednesdays and Sundays for six weeks, while private classes are on Saturdays. Additionally, they offer Canine Good Citizen Seminars and Testing, Rally Obedience Classes, and a “Creating the Ideal Puppy Seminar” through private classes.
