Hearth and Hounds offers private training covering basic obedience, loose leash walking, recall, and crate training, addressing general canine household issues but not aggression or in-family dog fighting. The Canine Good Citizen Package includes a 1.5-hour initial session followed by four weekly 30-minute practice sessions, culminating in a test at the sixth meeting. The “Teacher for Hire” program provides a 5-week class for 2-4 dogs and their families at the client’s location, following a set curriculum for dog and people-friendly dogs, and is not for significant behavior issues.
Pricing & Policies
Pricing Summary
Private training is $90 per hour for the first session, with discounts for additional sessions. The Canine Good Citizen Package is $500 for 6 sessions. A “Teacher for Hire” 5-week class is $500, with per-student costs varying based on the number of participants: $50 per class for two students, $33 per class for three students, and $25 per class for four students. Custom options are also available upon contact.
About the Trainer
Hearth and Hounds, LLC is a dog training business led by Susan Spinks, a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA). Susan’s goal is to help create harmonious and happy families where both humans and dogs are emotionally connected and respectful of each other’s needs and wants.
She teaches owners to train their dogs using science-based, positive training methods, emphasizing “yes” and rarely “no”. Susan does not currently work with aggression or in-family dog fighting issues.
She offers private training for basic obedience, loose leash walking, recall, and crate training. Additionally, she provides a Canine Good Citizen Package and a “Teacher for Hire” option for small groups of friends interested in a set curriculum class.
Accomplishments
Susan Spinks is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) since 2016. She mentored under Jane Marshall at Cheery Dogs Dog Training for six years. She is a professional member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers since 2015 and a Canine Training Professional with the Pet Professional Guild since 2014.
Susan is an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and a Pet Dog Ambassador Instructor and Assessor since 2017. She graduated top of her class from the Pat Miller Canine Behavior and Training Academy (Level 1) in 2018 and also completed Level 2 Behavior Modification.
She has attended numerous workshops and conferences, including Teamworks Chicken Clicker Training Camp, Chirag Patel 4 Day Intensive Workshop, and multiple Clicker Expo Conferences. From January 2020 to June 2022, she served as the Dog Training Program Manager at Paws4ever.
