Heaven Scent K9

Individual Training offers 1 on 1 training focused on the dog’s individual needs. Group Class allows dogs to socialize and be desensitized to distractions by training with a group. Day Training is an educational daycare where dogs are dropped off and picked up daily, including daycare play and customizable training sessions. It is best for owners who have worked with them before as it does not include a thorough lesson at pickup, providing physical and mental exercise. Board & Train allows dogs to stay in their trusted care for customizable training. Therapy Dog Training prepares dogs for Therapy Dogs United certification, requiring the dog to be 1 year old or older and pass Canine Good Citizen (CGC) first. They offer the CGC test. Training is 1-on-1, 1-hour sessions, available at their facility or off-site in public settings. A certification test-only option is also available.

Pricing Summary

Day Training: Single Day $50, 5 Day Package $225. Dog Boarding: Standard 4’x8′ Kennel $36/night, Large 8’x8′ Kennel $45/night. Discounts for additional pets in same kennel: Standard $31/additional, Large $40/additional. Therapy Training: 1on1 @HSK9 $125/hour, Off-Site Training $175/hour. Therapy Dog Certification Only: Test Only $100. 1 Off-Site evaluation required (if not done previously) $175/hour. Therapy Dogs United fees (separate from Heaven Scent K9) include an $80 application fee, $30 for annual dues, and optional bandana ($35) and/or vest ($90).

Policies

For boarding, last minute date changes during busy season and holidays will still require the original boarding fee if Heaven Scent K9 is not allocated time to fill the spot. All dogs must have updated Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella vaccines and be on a flea & tick preventative. For boarding, vaccines should be received at least a week prior to coming to ensure effectiveness.

Heaven Scent K9 is a dog training business founded in 2020 by a mother-daughter team, Pamela Peas and Jacklyn Brown. They offer a wide variety of pet care, training, bathing services, and have a retail store. Their facility is located on 40 acres in Huntington County, Indiana, providing ample space for training and exercise.

The facility features climate-controlled kennels and an HVAC system designed for efficient airflow and disease prevention, prioritizing cleanliness and health. They are a drain-free facility, using pet-friendly cleaning products that are sprayed and vacuumed up. Dogs are let out at least four times daily in a secure fenced-in exercise area, with social dogs grouped by size and activity level, and non-social dogs exercised individually. Each guest receives a raised cot and individual water bucket.

Jacklyn Brown, an ABC Certified Dog Trainer and Certified Explosives K9 Handler, leads the training. She has been training dogs competitively since 2009 and full-time since 2018. Heaven Scent K9 uses balanced training, utilizing markers to communicate correct and incorrect behaviors, rewards as motivators, and consequences to establish healthy boundaries, aiming for a balanced lifestyle and strong relationships between dogs and their owners.

Accomplishments

Jacklyn Brown, co-founder of Heaven Scent K9, trained dogs competitively in obedience and agility for 10 years. She became a nationally certified bomb dog handler and ABC certified professional dog trainer in 2018, training pets and K9s full time since then. She graduated two semesters early from Trine University with a Bachelor’s degree in management and completed two internships with Merrill’s K9, assisting in training detection dogs and handling a bomb-sniffing Labrador at NBA/NFL events and concert festivals across the country. Pamela Peas, co-founder, grew up on a farm and taught fifth grade, often using her yellow Labrador Bailey for interactive games with students. She has been active in the Wabash 4-H Dog Club parent committee.

How to Get Started!

For Day Training, it is best for owners who have worked with Heaven Scent K9 before. For Therapy Dog Training, dogs must be 1 year old or older and need to pass Canine Good Citizen (CGC) first, which can be taken at their facility. To take the Therapy Dog Certification test only, clients can schedule a time to come in.
