Dog Training Methodology

  • Positive Reinforcement Only

  • Clickers

Heeling Hounds offers tailored training programs designed to meet individual and family needs within the home environment. This eliminates the need for clients to travel to classes or group sessions.

Behavior Modification services aim to eliminate unwanted behaviors like digging, jumping, and barking, with initial consultations having no “magic time limit” and including selective email/telephone follow-up. Obedience Training focuses on teaching dogs a human vocabulary, adding desired behaviors, and utilizes gentle methods, including the clicker.

Adoption Transition Counseling helps new dog owners establish cohesive leadership, consistent routines, and effective communication to ensure a smooth transition and prevent future problems. The Trainer Tag-along Program provides aspiring trainers with practical experience through ride-along sessions and a wrap-up meeting, offering a cost-effective alternative to full certification schools.

Testimonials

“Glenda is an amazing trainer who trains both humans and dogs to understand each other’s languages. In just two sessions, she already worked wonders with Teddy and me. We have fun together practicing skills like ‘leave it’ and ‘drop it.‘ He is learning to be patient as we start through a door rather than scratching at the door. Our walks have become enjoyable for both of us, too. Thank you, Glenda, for your positivity as you have taught both of us an excellent way to be best friends!”
– Kay R. and Cairn Terrier mix Teddy, April 2025

“Glenda is amazing! Our active one year old Aussie needed a lot of help with learning to not jump on people, among other things. As soon as Glenda walked in our house the training began. Of course our dog Breck jumped on her, but she showed us exactly what to do and it worked… instantly! We have learned so much from her about dog language and it’s been so helpful for us and Breck. I’d highly recommend Glenda to anyone who needs extra help with dog training and behavior modification.”
– Christopher and Cecilia F. and Australian Shepherd Breck, February 2025

“Glenda is absolutely amazing!!! She truly understands dog behavior and was able to teach us how to make our dog feel safe and redirect her as needed. She is also absolutely hilarious and is just genuinely a great person. You can truly tell how much she loves dogs; it shows in her personality and her training techniques. Would highly, highly recommend her to anyone!”
– Markus and Genie G. and Dachshund Kona, August 2024

About the Trainer

Heeling Hounds Dog Training is owned and founded by Glenda Herrin, who has trained over 1500 dogs since 2008. The business provides personalized, in-home dog training services focusing on behavior modification, obedience, and adoption transition counseling. They also offer a unique Trainer Tag-along Program for aspiring dog trainers.

Their philosophy centers on the belief that there are no bad dogs, only uneducated ones. Training involves explaining desired behaviors to dogs using communication they can understand, without harsh methods, shouting, intimidation, or harmful techniques. The approach is fun, stress-free, and rewarding for both dogs and their human companions.
