Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ Positive Reinforcement Only
Helping Howls focuses exclusively on Board & Train programs for puppies, adolescent dogs, and young adults, aiming to guide them through developmental stages to become confident, calm, and well-mannered family companions. These programs address common behavior struggles such as leash pulling, jumping, ignoring cues, or difficulty settling at home, and include coaching for families to maintain and build on skills after the dog returns home.
They are Virginia’s only positive reinforcement Board & Train program dedicated solely to puppies and young dogs, and they do not accept aggression or severe behavioral cases.
In addition to Board & Train, they offer Pet Training, which can be conducted at your home or at their facility in Midlothian, VA, covering skills like loose leash walking, jumping on people, counter surfing, and coming when called. They also provide Service Dog Training with expert trainers to help teams nationwide achieve success with their future service dog, through virtual sessions, board & training, dog placements, and raise & training.
Testimonials
“Tala is a real blessing to our family. She has a natural gift with our rescued puppy. He was taken out of the road, bleeding, starving and coated with vermin. He could not even stand. Rehabilitating has not been easy, and Tala has been an important part of Benny’s healing. I am so grateful. If Tala could handle our difficult dog, she can probably handle anything, Tala is awesome.”
– Jack R. from Midlothian, VA
“Tala went above and beyond as a trainer and helped us learn how to build a strong connection with our first puppy and how to communicate with her. She seems to know every dog that comes through her classes individually and doesn’t use a one-size-fits all approach. She was able to recommend different toys and training tools that we’ve found useful as our pup has grown. Our dog loves her and enjoys going to her training classes each week so it is enjoyable rather than a chore. She has been able to help us brainstorm different ways to approach training problems that we’ve run into and help our pup be successful.”
– Sarah W. from Powhattan, VA
“Tala is an experienced and excellent trainer. She made the classes fun and worked with us one on one.”
– Paul O. from Midlothian, VA
