Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ Balanced Training
Equipment:
- ✓ Flat Collars
- ✓ E-Collars
Private Obedience Training Lessons are typically five one-hour sessions conducted at the client’s home, street, or a park, addressing specific behavior problems and setting training goals. These lessons cover basic obedience commands such as Heel, Sit, Come, Down, Stay, No, and Place, while teaching dogs attentiveness, self-discipline, and respect. Owners learn how to correctly use a chain collar, apply leash corrections for slack leash walking, and utilize voice commands, body language, and tone. Additional lessons may be needed for reliable off-leash control.
Group Obedience Classes are six weekly one-hour sessions held at Hooker Oak Park. Dogs learn basic obedience commands (Heel, Sit, Come, Stay, Down, No, Place) on leash amidst the distractions of other dogs. Owners are taught correct body language, voice tone, and techniques for precise maneuvering with minimal leash tension. The classes aim to encourage desired responses and provide firm discipline for unacceptable behavior. A six-foot leash and a properly sized chain training collar are required, as harnesses are not used.
E-Collar Conditioning is offered for owners seeking total on and off-leash control, particularly effective for teaching reliable recall and loose leash walking for impulsive, strong-willed, or physically strong dogs. It can also serve as a safety measure to prevent injuries. Dogs must have a foundation in basic obedience before e-collar introduction, which is done through a logical, step-by-step process with variable intensity levels, vibrate mode, and tone warnings.

Testimonials
“Debra was a godsend! My Rottweiler puppy started to react badly towards people screaming as though she was being hurt. With Debra’s knowledge and patience, Lilah learned that people aren’t going to hurt her, now allowing strangers to pet her without fear! Her knowledge of the basic obedience commands is much improved. I’d highly recommend High Tail Dog training for any breed of dog.”

“Baylie was AMAZING! She really took the time to explain things and answer all of my questions. She went above and beyond and the results were worth every penny! I would HIGHLY recommend High Tail if you are in need of top quality training!”
– Jennifer M.
“I now believe in miracles. For months we have tried to teach Story (100 pound black Lab) to load up. Very frustrating. We bought expensive dog stairs-didn’t work. Dog treats, hamburgers, tons of positive reinforcement and finally even crawled in myself—still no luck. I was put in contact with Debra at High Tail and within 30 minutes of working with him she accomplished what seemed like an impossibility. Using positive reinforcement and repetition within 30 minutes she had Story eagerly loading up and ready to go for a ride. In addition she gave me clear instructions and watched to be sure I was successful. Debra has excellent communication skills and it was a pleasure to watch her develop rapport with Story. Her years of experience make her a valued trainer for any situation. I highly recommend Debra. Five Stars+”
