Testimonials
“Terry and Laura, I was just enjoying the videos of Colt’s pointing demonstration again. What a great year for us with Lute getting his master title and Colt doing so well with his pointing! We can’t thank you enough for all of the great training you have given to Ole, Garth, Lute and Colt (and Patrice and I!) since we picked up Ole and Garth in 2007. Our dogs mean so much to our family, and to have had all of them be such nice dogs, and to do so well in the field, has been very rewarding. You have helped us pick pups, learn how to deal with them, take them to a high level of performance, and even deal with loss. Thank you, we wish you continued success!”
– Chad T. Nelson
“Terry: I just wanted to touch base on Toby. To remind you, we got Toby last December (Bailey and Riley litter October 2011). Toby is just coming up on a year old. About 2 weeks ago he completed 10 weeks training with Terry: on leash, field off leash, forced retrieve, retrieve to heel, even intro to duck hunting. According to Terry, he was a very fast learner… Toby is the 5th hunting dog I have had, and at 11 months old he might already be the best yet!”
– Mark Guidinger
“I took a great dog to terry to train years ago and he used way too much collar pressure on him. When he would point a bird you could go behind him and you couldn’t push him forward to move. That’s the honest to gods truth. He put a collar on his neck and one by his back legs and every time he even moved his head he lit him up with too high of stimulation. Wouldn’t recommend him to anyone.”

About the Trainer
Holzinger Kennels is a professional dog training business founded in 1982 by Terry Holzinger, specializing in hunting and obedience training for gun dogs. They train all breeds, with a focus on Pointers, Flushers, Labs, and Retrievers, using a customized, four-level program: Kindergarten, Grade School, Junior High, and High School, with advanced options available. Training occurs year-round at their 700-acre facility in Prior Lake, Minnesota, featuring indoor heated kennels and extensive outdoor fieldwork. Dogs are housed on-site during board-and-train programs, and vaccinations are required before enrollment. The business also breeds top-quality Labrador Retrievers, offering stud dogs and puppies, with many clients returning for training after purchasing puppies from their line. Their training emphasizes natural instincts, consistency, and reward-based methods, producing dogs that excel both in the field and as family companions.
Terry Holzinger is a Senior and Master AKC judge, founding member of the Lake Country Retriever Club, and has trained dogs that have earned titles in national hunt tests. Clients praise the program for transforming fearful or untrained dogs into confident, high-performing hunting companions, while also ensuring excellent behavior at home.
Holzinger Kennels does not offer grooming, walking, daycare, or pet-sitting services, but provides comprehensive training and breeding services exclusively.
The facility requires proof of current Rabies, Distemper, Parvo, Bordetella, and Heartworm checks before training begins.
Training is conducted on-site only, with no in-home or virtual options.
The business has been operating since 1982, with Terry Holzinger training dogs professionally for over 40 years.
