Classes are held at their dedicated training center. Private training is flexible, with in-person or virtual 50-minute sessions. Programs build progressively: Puppy Pre-School → Puppy Essentials → Basic Manners → Advanced Manners → Reactive Rover. Reactive Rover focuses on stress cue identification and avoidance techniques. All training uses positive reinforcement and emphasizes handler education.

Testimonials

What prompted us to look for reputable training for our little beagle was reactivity issues. About a year ago he was injured by two much larger off leash dogs and ended up with emergency surgery. While the physical wounds healed – he’s struggled mentally around other dogs – big fear factor. We needed help to try to resolve or at least mitigate the situation because going on walks had become nearly impossible due to his new reactivity issues. We started with the Reactive Rover class and currently have progressed to Basic Manners 2. Huge progress, with lots of patience. We appreciate the tasks given each week are doable, and each week one task builds upon a new one. The classroom is large enough for space between all the dogs, it’s super clean inside, and has a bathroom as well. Besides Cierra (prof dog trainer), there are usually one or two volunteers to help out. We’ve learned various incredibly helpful tools on how we can advocate for our dog, for example, re-direction to avoid a reactive situation, or if in one how to handle it. It’s made us more confident to get Hobie back out in public and has made our walks much more enjoyable. We highly recommend Cierra as a professional dog trainer! She has so much experience with so many dog breeds and her help and guidance is invaluable. So grateful to her! She has helped us help Hobie come a long way!

Cierra was excellent with Maple during her training classes. Maple learned different skills and doggie etiquette/socialization. Maple “leveled” up her bravery skills and I learned multiple strategies to continue working with Maple after the training sessions were done.

I can’t recommend Cierra enough, she’s so great with my senior chihuahua mix. We did her reactive rover class and my girls behavior improved. Cierra is patient and kind and her passion for training is unmatched. We love her positive reinforcement techniques and fear free training.

They provide group classes for puppies and adult dogs, including Puppy Pre-School, Basic Manners, Puppy Essentials (AKC S.T.A.R. approved), Reactive Rover, and Advanced Manners (Canine Good Citizen Prep). All classes are held at their dedicated 1,100 sq ft facility, The Swigert Family Behavior and Training Center, in Vancouver, WA. Private training is available in-person or virtually, offering flexibility for dogs with specific needs. Their trainer, Cierra Whitcomb, is a certified professional with over a decade of experience in behavior and training, specializing in fear-based reactivity, socialization, and confidence-building. The center also supports the community with spay/neuter services, pet food assistance, and adoption resources.

Their programs emphasize science-based, reward-driven methods to reduce stress and build trust. Classes are small, with limited enrollment to ensure personalized attention. First sessions are owner-only to prepare handlers before bringing dogs in. They cater to puppies, adolescents, and adult dogs, with specific programs for reactive dogs and senior pets. The facility is clean, spacious, and includes a bathroom for convenience.

HSSW is part of a larger humane society that provides animal welfare services, making them a trusted, community-focused provider. They offer affordable pricing and have received consistent praise from clients for their compassionate, effective training methods and supportive environment.
