About the Trainer
The Idaho Capital City Kennel Club (ICCKC) is a club of approximately 100 members who enjoy working with dogs in various sports and activities. They offer educational programs at monthly meetings, telephone advice and referral services, and classes and seminars at their Training Center. The club is based in Boise, Idaho, and its members work with purebred and mixed-breed dogs registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC).
ICCKC aims to promote dog ownership and competitions through its educational initiatives. Their Training Center, which opened in December 2017, provides a dedicated space for classes, matches, seminars, and other training opportunities. The center is managed by volunteer members who also teach classes and lead drop-in sessions, with all proceeds supporting the facility’s upkeep and club events.
The club emphasizes a family-oriented approach, with several Junior members and family participation in events. They also offer a Junior Scholarship program to support the future of dog sports. ICCKC strives to promote responsible dog ownership, monitor legislation, and contribute to the community through donations to local dog services and charities, funded by event income.
Accomplishments
The Idaho Capital City Kennel Club is an AKC Events Club, established in 1955. They have a history of hosting AKC sanctioned matches and dog shows since the 1940s. The club offers an annual Owen Clouss Junior Scholarship Award, honoring a lifetime member who supported junior participation in dog sports.
Past scholarship recipients include Charese Kelly (2020), who qualified for the AKC National Championship multiple times, the Obedience Championship, and Westminster Kennel Club; Miranda Sylvester (2019), who qualified for the Eukanuba National Championship as a Junior Handler; Laryssa Peterson (2017), an agility competitor; Jami M. Smith (2016), an AKC Breeder of Merit; and Lexi Brigante (2014 and 2015), an agility competitor studying to become a Veterinary Technician and Agility Judge. The club also presents a Good Sportsmanship Award annually, with Alice being the 2024 recipient.
