Imperial Polk Obedience Club (IPOC) provides group dog training classes structured into 7-week sessions. Entry-level options include Puppy Class for dogs 8 weeks to 5 months old and Basic Obedience for dogs 6 months and older.
Progression to advanced classes requires prerequisites: Agility Foundation for all Agility programs; Basic Obedience and Advanced Basic for Rally and Obedience programs; and Basic Obedience for Scent Work, Tricks, and Service Dog Skills classes. IPOC’s program is designed for dogs that can comfortably participate in a group setting; dogs exhibiting extreme stress, fear, or aggression will be referred to private behavior trainers.
Classes are available for both competitive events and general pet dog training, including Urban Dog, Advanced Obedience, and Tricks for those not pursuing competition. Children aged 9-18 are welcome to participate, with exceptions for younger children who demonstrate handling ability. Female dogs in season must wear leakproof pants while in the building.

About the Trainer
Imperial Polk Obedience Club (IPOC) is a dog training club located in Lakeland, Florida, offering a variety of group classes for dog owners. They provide entry-level classes such as Puppy Class for pups 8 weeks to 5 months old and Basic Obedience for dogs 6 months and older.
For more advanced training, IPOC offers programs in Agility, Rally, Scent Work, Tricks, Obedience, Service Dog Skills, Urban Dog, and Conformation. They also conduct various evaluations and tests, including AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC, CGCA, CGCU), AKC Trick Dog, and AKC Temperament Tests.
IPOC’s training program is designed for dogs that can participate in a group setting without showing extreme stress, fear, or aggression towards other dogs or people; dogs exhibiting such behaviors will be referred to private behavior trainers. They welcome both adults and children (ages 9-18, with exceptions for younger children) to participate in classes, with only one person allowed in the ring per dog.
The club offers a one-time $15 discount for rescued dogs on entry-level classes, valid up to one year after adoption with proof. Additionally, they sell various dog training equipment like collars and leashes. Members can also rent rings for private lessons or training. The training center is staffed only when classes, trials, or events are scheduled.
How to Get Started!
To get started, clients can download and complete a Class Registration form (available for the public or IPOC members). The completed form, along with payment and a copy of the dog’s vaccination record, should be mailed to their P.O. Box, postmarked at least 14 days before the first class of a session.
For dogs new to IPOC who have already completed basic obedience elsewhere, owners should contact the club to schedule an appointment. This appointment will involve an evaluation of the dog’s behavior and temperament towards other dogs and people, and a demonstration of skills taught in IPOC’s Basic Obedience class, as well as skills learned elsewhere for advanced placement consideration.
