Group classes generally cost $210 for a set of six 50-minute sessions. Behavior Modification group classes cost $275 for six 50-minute sessions. Service Dog group classes cost $360 for six 50-minute sessions.

Policies

Dogs 16 weeks and older must have completed DHPP and Rabies vaccinations; Bordetella and K9 Influenza are recommended. Puppies 10-16 weeks need their first DHPP vaccination. Aggressive dogs (those that have bitten or show aggression) are only accepted for private training. Reactive dogs (bark or lunge at other dogs) may require an evaluation before group class registration, and are not eligible for the Service Dog or Therapy Dog programs. A maximum of one makeup class is allowed per 6-week session, which can be requested via email. Family members aged 7 and older are permitted to attend classes.

About the Trainer

Jackie’s Basics and Beyond Dog Training has been helping dog owners for over 14 years, turning canine companions into best friends. They offer a balanced training approach that focuses on reward-based reinforcement to enhance communication and create a positive bond between dogs and their humans. The business aims to help dogs and puppies become happy, well-socialized, and obedient additions to any family.

They provide a wide range of services from basic obedience to complex behavioral issues, including specialized training for therapy and service dogs. Their programs are designed to teach according to a dog’s intelligence and personality, ensuring fun and effective learning experiences. Many of their trained teams have gone on to become certified Therapy and Service Teams, even performing as Red Cross Comfort Animals.

Accomplishments

Jackie Kelly, the founder, has spent her life working with animals and opened the business in 2010. The program has successfully trained numerous dogs and humans to become certified Therapy and Service Teams, with some even performing as Red Cross Comfort Animals. Other trained pairs are used for in-class demonstrations, personal training consultations, and showing at trade shows/expos.

How to Get Started!

For aggressive dogs, private training is the only option. Reactive dogs may require an evaluation before registering for group classes, and an evaluation is required to sign up for the Service Dog program. Puppies aged 8-9 weeks are too young for group classes and should consider private training. For Service Dog training, a letter from a healthcare doctor stating the need for a Service Dog is required, and dogs must know basic commands, walk on a loose leash, and not exhibit reactive, shy, or aggressive behavior. An evaluation is also required for Cart Pulling private classes.
