About the Trainer

Jaeger Scent Training offers K9 Nosework classes that help dog owners build a stronger bond with their dogs through scent-based activities. The program begins with Foundations 101, using food rewards and cardboard boxes to teach dogs to search and identify hidden scents, tapping into their natural hunting instincts. Classes progress to Foundations 102, introducing target odors—Birch, Anise, and Clove—and expanding searches to containers, vehicles, interiors, and exteriors. The training emphasizes reading the dog’s behavior, handler leash handling, and positive reinforcement, with a focus on the dog’s natural abilities. Classes are held at multiple locations in Whatcom County and Skagit Valley, Washington, and are designed for dogs 6 months and older. No human-reactive dogs are permitted.

The methodology is rooted in the National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW) standards, and the program supports both recreational participation and competitive titling (NW1, NW2, NW3, Elite). Handlers learn to become students of their dogs, fostering confidence and mental stimulation. The training is fun, low-stress, and ideal for dogs of all breeds seeking mental enrichment.

Jaeger Scent Training does not offer grooming, boarding, walking, or other pet services beyond scent training classes.

Accomplishments

Jaeger Scent Training follows NACSW standards and offers training aligned with official K9 Nosework titling (NW1, NW2, NW3, Elite). The first official NACSW trial was held in January 2009, and Jaeger’s program supports this sanctioned structure.
