Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Positive Reinforcement Only

Jivin’ Dog Training and Agility offers various training options. Training and Behavior Modification Lessons begin with an Initial Consult, lasting 1.5 to 2 hours, to assess issues and create a customized plan, followed by written homework. Private Follow Up Lessons involve coaching on skills with written homework provided.

Agility Training is held at the trainer’s home field, covering puppy foundations, obstacle training, and advanced skills for fun or competition. Day Training allows clients to drop off their dog for skill training, with a 30-minute follow-up session to review progress.

For intensive training, Board and Train services are available for up to two weeks, including a one-hour follow-up lesson per week and a written plan. Enrichment Walks are offered in specific southern Raleigh areas, providing customized mental and physical stimulation through games, nose work, or decompression walks. Virtual lessons are also a possibility, and in-person lessons are currently scheduled outside due to COVID restrictions.

About the Trainer

Jivin’ Dog Training and Agility is a dog training business led by Patty Warren, a licensed vet tech with almost 20 years of experience in dog training and behavior. She offers a wide range of services in the Raleigh area, focusing on positive reinforcement, management, and enrichment to build a strong, trusting bond between dogs and their handlers.

Patty’s approach is flexible, recognizing that every dog is different, and aims to help owners and their dogs truly enjoy sharing their lives together. Her services include private lessons for puppy training, basic manners, behavior modification, and agility training. She also specializes in matching homes with the right dog, assisting with evaluating adoptable dogs or finding reputable breeders.

Unique advantages include her extensive background as a licensed vet tech with behavior training under Dr. Emily Kinnaird, her graduation from Purdue University’s DOGS! Course, and her experience in performing behavior evaluations for shelters and temperament testing puppies. She has also competed at the national level in dog agility, earning multiple championships, and has trained her dogs in therapy work.

The business emphasizes creating a well-mannered and happy dog, which in turn leads to happy owners and more privileges for the dog. Patty works with owners to bring out the best in their dogs, whether the goal is a well-mannered companion, addressing severe behavior problems, or competing at a high level.
