The program includes basic obedience (heel, sit, stay, down, come), targeted behavior correction (barking, jumping, digging, counter surfing), public socialization, and leash walking on a loose lead. Dogs train daily in a state-of-the-art facility with indoor and outdoor spaces, including a 3-acre pasture and swimming pond. After completion, owners attend several private follow-up lessons to learn how to maintain the training and reinforce commands at home.

Led by Joel Slaven, a renowned animal trainer with over 50 years of experience working with exotic animals, racehorses, and television productions, the facility provides personalized, relationship-based training designed to build a strong team between dog and owner. Their 21-day intensive program includes basic obedience commands, behavior modification for issues like leash pulling, jumping, barking, and separation anxiety, plus socialization in public settings. Dogs enjoy spacious kennels, a 3-acre fenced pasture, a swimming pond, wooded trails, and enrichment activities. After training, owners receive private follow-up lessons to reinforce skills and ensure long-term success. The facility also offers luxury boarding with daily updates via photos and videos, making it ideal for pet owners seeking both training and a safe, enriching stay.
The training team includes Jackie Brandal, an Animal Science graduate who trained under Joel and now assists with obedience, behavior, agility, and therapy dog programs. Their philosophy centers on trust, positive motivation, and making training fun and effective for both dog and owner, using rewards and respect rather than force. The facility features a dedicated 1,600 sq. ft. indoor training area, kitchenette for counter-surfing training, living room setup for couch training, and open-air spaces for fresh-air sessions.
Accomplishments
Joel Slaven has over 50 years of experience training animals for major venues including the Columbus Zoo, Six Flags, SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, and Radio City Music Hall. He trained animals for films like “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” and “101 Dalmatians: The Musical.” He founded JSPA Inc., the largest domestic animal show producer in the world, rescued over 2,500 shelter animals, and received the “Animal Hero Award” in 2014 and the Golden Leash Award from Canine Companions for Independence. He has spoken at Ohio State and Iowa State universities and initiated the canine program at Flying Horse Farms.
