Dog Training Methodology

JLAD offers programs for both JLAD-trained service dogs and owner-trained service dogs. JLAD-trained dogs are purpose-bred and undergo extensive training tailored to the handler’s specific needs, including Service Dogs for Civilians, Veterans/First Responders, and Facility Dogs.

The owner-trained program allows individuals to work in conjunction with JLAD to train their own dog, covering Civilian Service Dogs, Veteran/First Responder Service Dogs, and Facility Dogs. They also provide a Therapy Dog certification program in partnership with Alliance of Therapy Dogs, and offer “Career Change Dogs” for adoption. All service dogs receive a minimum of 18 months of training and lifetime training support.

Testimonials

“Diego has provided me with more confidence in meeting the blessings of everyday life. I experienced firsthand the life changing ways service dogs affect veterans in need. God bless all of you at JLAD for giving me, a veteran, the opportunity to be free. As you are now on point, thank you for your service. God, Honor, Country”
– Brandy & Diego

“He patiently keeps reminding me to drop it, that he is here with me and he has my back. And thanks to all of you for everything you have poured into this strange and wonderful creature, I am starting to believe that he does. I send you all at JLAD every drop of gratitude a human heart can hold. Thank you for this gift. Big love,”
– John-James Ford & Ras

“Jake has made my life so much better. He goes with me to all of my infusion appointments and specialists. He has not only comforted me and taken away so much stress but everywhere we go I see smiles from all who see us together. At physical therapy the people that are in the office say he even takes away their stress.”
– Karen

About the Trainer

Joys of Living Assistance Dogs (JLAD) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to raising and training assistance dogs and placing them in positions of service. They aim to connect individuals with devoted companion service dogs, highlighting the profound bond and practical assistance these highly trained dogs provide.

JLAD offers comprehensive programs for both JLAD-trained service dogs and owner-trained service dogs, designed to fit various needs. A unique aspect of their operation is the prison partnership program, where adults in custody train the service dogs, fostering purpose and community contribution. Volunteer socializers also play a vital role in integrating these service dogs into daily life.

The organization boasts 21 years of service, having placed over 245 assistance dogs. Their dogs are trained to learn 90 cues, and JLAD has maintained Assistance Dogs International (ADI) accreditation for 11 years. Additionally, they facilitate a therapy dog certification program in collaboration with Alliance of Therapy Dogs and offer “career change dogs” for adoption.
