Dog Training Methodology
K-9 Obedience Training Club offers beginner classes for dogs with little or no prior training, as well as all levels of competition obedience classes. Upon completing Beginner and Advanced Beginner classes, dogs are eligible to test for an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title.
Classes are held on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in Cedar Grove, NJ. Obedience classes are scheduled to begin April 1, 2025, and Rally classes on April 2, 2025. Clients are required to bring their dog’s vaccination record to the first class.
About the Trainer
The K-9 Obedience Training Club of Essex County, NJ, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that has operated continuously since its founding by Hal Wheeler in 1944. They are dedicated to helping promote responsible dog ownership through training.
They provide classes for dogs of all ages and breeds, ranging from beginner levels for dogs with little or no training to all levels of competition obedience classes. Their instructors are actively training and competing in various events such as Obedience, Rally, Agility, Conformation, Field, Herding, Barn Hunt, and Nosework.
Upon completion of their Beginner and Advanced Beginner classes, dogs are eligible to test for a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title offered by the AKC. Their motto is “Trained dogs make better companions.”

Prospective clients are advised to check back for booking availability as there is nothing to book currently. When classes resume, clients must bring their dog’s vaccination record to the first class.
