K9 Basics – Dog Training

K9 Basics offers three main training programs: Day Training, Board & Train, and Group Training. The Day Training program is an 8-day program where dogs are dropped off in the morning and picked up in the evening. It includes three interactive training sessions for the family and guarantees on-leash control for commands like sit, down, place, recall, heel, and addresses issues like jumping, digging, chewing, and proper crate/car/doorway manners.

The Board & Train program is a 2-3 week residency where dogs stay at the facility and receive three training sessions daily from multiple trainers. This intensive program is designed for faster progress, especially for severe behavior cases or owners with limited time. It guarantees both on and off-leash control, covering recall, sit/down, long-duration place, proper leash walking, no jumping, crate/car manners, and addressing reactivity. This program includes one in-home follow-up lesson and lifetime access to Group Training.

Group Training classes are offered four times weekly, including evenings and Saturdays, and are included for life after completing a Day Training or Board & Train program. These classes are designed to challenge dogs with real-world distractions, with owners as the primary handlers and trainers providing assistance. K9 Basics also offers Puppy Preschool and Advanced Pack Socialization.

Policies

For evaluations, clients are kindly asked to reschedule at least 24 hours prior to their scheduled appointment. Failure to cancel or no-shows for scheduled demos/evaluations are subject to a $50.00 charge.

K9 Basics has been a leader in professional dog training for the past twenty years. Owner Brian Berg served as a Supervising Officer and K9 handler for a police K9 unit for 10 years. Training Director Arnold Apel has considerable experience as a Military Police K9 handler in the United States Marine Corps, having worked and trained dogs both stateside and overseas. The business is recognized as experts in dog behavior modification and problem-solving. Their associated facility, Clif Wyck Kennels, is used by the County Health Inspector as an outstanding example of how dog boarding facilities should be maintained and operated. Staff are medically trained and responsive, up-to-date on Canine CPR and Doggy Heimlich techniques.

To begin, K9 Basics offers a free evaluation by appointment. During this evaluation, goals are set for each dog and owner. Clients can book a free evaluation online via a contact form, providing their full name, email address, phone number, and a description of the issues they are experiencing. Demos and evaluations are scheduled on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
