Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ Positive Reinforcement Only
K9 Basics and Beyond offers multiple training options, including small group classes, private classes, consultations, and day training, designed to meet individual dog and owner needs and schedules. Their approach emphasizes behavioral training, focusing on showing dogs how to make rewarding choices to foster a mannerly and enjoyable canine companion.
Consultations are available for one hour to discuss specific challenges, plan for new canine companions, develop potty training routines for puppies, or conduct a 1:1 meet and greet to assess needs. Classes, both private and small group, involve a trainer introducing weekly lessons for owners to practice and reinforce.
Day Training involves the dog spending a series of days with a trainer for multiple sessions, with owners receiving coaching at the end of each day to ensure follow-through. The “Basics/Foundation Program Level 1” is a 4-lesson series (or 4-day day train) suited for puppies, young, or newly adopted dogs, covering crate training, leash walking, calming on cue, focus, waiting for entries/exits, greetings, food/toys, and beginning recall. The “Beyond/Engagement Level 2” program, also a 4-lesson series (or 4-day day train), builds on the foundation, developing an engaged relationship through classic obedience skills like sit, down, come, and look, with emphasis on duration and incorporating skills into play. This program can also be customized.
