K9 Good Manners offers a 6-week intensive in-kennel board and train program, known as “Puppy Boot Camp,” designed for dogs with behavioral issues or those needing foundational obedience. The program includes training in commands like sit, stay, heel, recall, and the signature “place” command. Dogs are trained using a balanced approach combining positive reinforcement and corrections. After the program, owners receive in-person follow-up training at their home to ensure consistency. The training is guaranteed for the life of the dog, and owners receive regular photo/video updates during boarding.

Testimonials
“Bear, our K9 Good Manners baby. When I first got pregnant, he was only 3 months old but a HUGE rambunctious boy, and I really didn’t think I could handle it. So, we sent him to k9 Good Manners and they transformed him into such a good boy and took such great care of him! Needless to say, my daughter has grown up with him and wants to take him everywhere. Even when we are pulling out the drive way she yells goodbye to all her pets even though they’re inside lol. They all have a bond and I owe a part of it to John Smithhart.”

“THANK YOU for training Belle to be an amazing dog. She has only been home a day and we are beyond impressed and amazed with how changed for the better she is. The cats are relaxed; there are no accidents/chewing. She is content to sit in her place, I don’t even know if you gave us the right dog because she is SO much better! Thank you! Everyone who has a dog should do this! It makes life so much more enjoyable for both the dog and the owners.”
-Annie- North Carolina
“We adopted a shelter dog from Laurens County Animal Control who was trained by John and his team while waiting for a home. They did an amazing job. She started out fearful and defensive as a new shelter dog. As she developed a working relationship with people, she blossomed and now is a friendly, happy, very obedient dog who fit in beautifully with our family. We take her with us to different places and she is always well-behaved. I am able to let her off-leash to do barn chores and she is respectful to cats and horses, always comes when she’s called.”

About the Trainer
K9 Good Manners is a veteran-owned dog training facility founded by John Smithhart, a former U.S. Air Force dog handler with over 17 years of professional experience in dog training and behavior. They specialize in intensive in-kennel board and train programs designed for dogs with behavior issues such as separation anxiety, leash pulling, reactivity, chewing, and aggression. Their programs are built on science and real-world experience gained from military, law enforcement, and K9 operations worldwide. In addition to board and train services, they offer owner training to help families maintain their dog’s progress. They also provide pet boarding and have trained shelter dogs for adoption. Their unique guarantee covers training for the life of the dog, and they emphasize building strong owner-dog bonds through clear communication and consistent reinforcement.
They serve clients locally and nationally, with many clients traveling from out of state to enroll their dogs in their 6-week intensive program. They provide regular photo and video updates during boarding and even deliver trained dogs back to owners’ homes to conduct in-person follow-up training in the family’s environment.
John Smithhart has trained dogs for NYPD, Secret Service, and military missions, and has imported dogs for the NYPD K9 program. His background ensures a high level of expertise in both obedience and behavior modification for dogs of all breeds and temperaments.
