Testimonials

I cannot, CANNOT say enough about our experience with K9 Guardian. I adopted a GSH at 8 months old she had been to several homes prior. To say she was stressed would be an understatement. The vet put her on two, yes two anxiety meds, she laid around, lethargic, cowered in a corner at every sound. If anyone came to the house she barked from fear. She wouldn’t walk out the front door, flipped out on a leash, threw up in the car and wouldn’t leave my side when we would finally get her in the building. You get the picture… she was a mess, that needed to be untangled. Gary from the beginning was honest. She would take a long time. It’s been a year and worth every minute and dime. I was in it for the long haul for her best life. She is not on any meds, she rides in a car, is excited when she sees her leash, barrels out the front door, jumps up in the car without hesitation, she does well with all her basic commands. But all this was possible because Gary had to think outside the box. He let her settle, relax and was patient with her. He had to come up with ways to engage her that were unprecedented. He couldn’t pet her but she was ball motivated so he played street hockey with her. They got into each other’s space, she was more focused on the ball that her fear. Now we are searching for her ball, he hides it, she searches for it. He doesn’t make it easy for her. She works for every praise she receives when she finally find it. She is learning not just to find it but when to sit because she needs help getting it. She moves independent of me now, she is focused on her task. I love watching the confidence building in her and how playful and excited she is for “school” now. She is learning not only to find her ball but to negotiate obstacles to get to it. Before she was so afraid she would just walk away and circle me. Not now she is much more driven.

About the Trainer

K9 Guardian is a dog training business led by Gary Garrison, a certified K9 trainer with over 20 years of experience in patrol, narcotics, explosives, and tracking training. Gary is a Master Trainer and holds certifications through NAPWDA, and he serves as President of the Pennsylvania Police Working Dog Association. The business provides professional K9 training programs tailored for law enforcement and personal protection, with structured packages ranging from Corporal to Chief levels. Each program includes a certified working dog, training manuals, national certifications, and specialized equipment. K9 Guardian also offers dog purchasing services, sourcing high-quality European-bred dogs with proven working bloodlines and strict temperament evaluations. While the primary focus is on working and protection dogs, testimonials indicate that Gary also provides behavior modification for anxious or fearful pet dogs using personalized, patient methods such as ball motivation and environmental desensitization.

The training is conducted at their facility in Annville, PA, and includes hands-on, intensive programs lasting 4–6 weeks. They do not offer group classes, in-home training, or day training for general pet owners, but their services extend to board-and-train programs with a strong emphasis on real-world performance and handler-dog bonding.

K9 Guardian is not a general pet training center; their core expertise lies in professional K9 work, though they have successfully helped owners with severe behavioral issues using non-traditional, reward-based techniques.

Accomplishments

Gary Garrison is a Master Trainer certified under NAPWDA, President of the Pennsylvania Police Working Dog Association, Assistant State Coordinator for NAPWDA, and a current K9 officer in Penn Township. He personally selects and evaluates all dogs from European breeders, with fewer than 10% passing initial screening. His training methods have successfully rehabilitated severely anxious dogs, as documented in client testimonials.
