Group classes are approximately one hour long and meet once a week for seven weeks. The goal is to teach desirable and appropriate behavior while preserving the dog’s personality, with a primary focus on teaching the owner/handler how to train their dog.
Classes cover problem solving for issues like jumping, chewing, housebreaking, digging, and separation anxiety. They also teach basic commands such as “heel,” “sit,” “stay,” “come,” and “down,” along with the meaning of “no,” “leave it,” and “out.” Socialization, basic First Aid, and an introduction to Massachusetts dog ownership law are also included.
K9 Protective Services also offers the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test. The CGC program aims to teach responsible dog ownership and ensure dogs are well-behaved at home and in public. It involves a ten-step test to evaluate a dog’s training.
