Programs are structured in progressive levels: Beginning Nose Work 1, Beginning Nose Work 2, Intermediate Nose Work, and Advanced Nose Work. Each level builds on odor discrimination, alert indication, and search environments (interior, exterior, vehicle, container). Handler Discrimination is offered as a specialized novice class. Online classes and webinars supplement in-person training. Training begins with conditioning the alert behavior before introducing scent work, following a methodical, step-by-step approach.

Testimonials
Currently taking classes at K9 Sniffers in San Leandro. Steve B (the trainer) is great, and more importantly patient with my sometimes overly active dog.
The class has helped my dog become calmer and less anxious. Dogs really enjoy this activity which requires the use of their bodies and there minds. Any breed of dog can participate. Awesome class.

About the Trainer
K9 Sniffers is a dog training business specializing in Nose Work and scent detection training for pet dogs. Led by IACP Certified Dog Trainer and Certified Nosework Instructor Steve Bettcher, the business offers structured classes in NACSW K9 Nose Work, AKC Scent Work, and UKC Nosework, catering to both competitive handlers and pet owners seeking fun, mentally enriching activities. Private lessons are available via Zoom, making training accessible beyond in-person attendance. The program is designed to be inclusive, with no prior training required, and is ideal for shy, fearful, or high-energy dogs.
Steve’s expertise includes odor discrimination using AKC scents (Birch, Anise, Clove, Cypress), handler discrimination, and real-world search environments (interiors, exteriors, vehicles, containers). The business promotes mental stimulation and enrichment through scent work, making it a year-round activity for dogs of all abilities.
