Obedience Class teaches skills for real-life situations, including meet and greets, loose leash walking in any direction, sit-stay and down-stay, and recall with distractions, with AKC CGC and CGCA Testing available. Advanced Class, a prerequisite to Obedience Class, polishes skills and introduces advanced handling and competition training, with AKC CGCU Testing available.
The “Bringing Home Baby” program is an add-on to Puppy or Obedience classes, designed to help dogs respect a baby’s area and belongings. Private Training offers one-on-one lessons to address specific issues or achieve particular goals, with costs determined after an evaluation.
Specialization classes are available based on interest, including Conformation, AKC Obedience, AKC Rally, AKC Trick Dog, AKC Fetch, Therapy dog training, and Weight pull. The “Day with a Trainer” program is a 4-hour intensive session for those with scheduling conflicts or traveling from afar, covering attention, healing, sits/downs, and navigating crowds. Boarded Training is a tailor-made off-site program where the head trainer personally trains the dog or puppy, including two private lessons and one group lesson for the owner.

Testimonials
“I started training with Derrick in 2017 with my counter surfing Australian Labradoodle, Tucker. I was amazed in the changes in my dog’s behavior in just a short period of time. We quickly started training on the competition team and earned many AKC Obedience and Rally titles. I love the bond that training has enhanced with Tucker. We enjoy being able to travel, off leash hike, and attend public events without worrying about his behavior. Tucker is a confident, highly trained dog and we receive many compliments on his training each time we are out.”

About the Trainer
Kai’s Obedience is a dog training business that aims to help owners and their canines achieve their full potential through proper training. They work with trainers who are passionate about dogs and skilled in getting dogs on the right track, focusing on building a strong bond and communication between a dog and its family.
The business offers training for every need, age, and breed, from introducing new puppies to addressing behavior issues, entering dog shows, or finding new sports. They emphasize building a strong team foundation, believing that once communication is developed and a dog understands expectations, owners can choose how far they want to go with their training. Kai’s Obedience fosters a community of dog owners who sought and found excellent training opportunities in Ankeny.
