Kaulike K9, LLC offers a range of training programs designed to foster a balanced relationship between dogs and their owners. Behavioral Consultations are mandatory initial assessments, lasting 30-45 minutes, conducted by both head trainers to determine the most suitable training path. Clients must disclose any known behavioral issues or bite history prior to this consultation.

Private Training Sessions provide one-on-one personalized training plans with both Ashley and Makana present. These sessions cover a wide array of topics including initial behavior evaluations, tool recommendations, communication techniques, crate and potty training, obedience refreshers, leash manners, and addressing problem behaviors such as counter surfing, excessive barking, and more severe issues like aggression, resource guarding, and reactivity. Day Trains offer a “training while you’re away” service, where a dedicated trainer picks up the dog for a 4-hour session focusing on real-world exposure, socialization, obedience, and rules. Each day train includes a 30-minute overview session with the owner at drop-off.

Virtual Coaching sessions are available for owners seeking personalized training from home, ideal for those outside O’ahu or needing additional human coaching. These sessions are conducted via Discord, Zoom, or FaceTime, and require an initial virtual consultation. The Puppy Jumpstart program, for canines under 6 months, is consult-only and covers essential puppy foundations like crate and potty training, socialization, basic obedience, and relationship building. This program is also offered virtually.

Holoholo & Hapa Pack Outings, while no longer accepting new clients as of April 2025, served as maintenance and supplemental training for existing clients. These full or half-day excursions included activities like beach days, hikes, and structured walks to practice obedience in a pack setting, with pick-up and drop-off services. Grooming services are available as add-ons exclusively for dogs participating in day trains or pack outings.

Pricing Summary

A behavioral consultation costs $60.00 per dog for a 30-45 minute session. Private training sessions are $200.00 per 60-minute session, with a rate of $250.00 for major behavioral cases. Packages for minor behavioral modification are available at $540.00 for 3 sessions, $900.00 for 5 sessions, and $1,440.00 for 8 sessions. Major behavioral modification packages are $1,200.00 for 5 sessions and $1,920.00 for 8 sessions.

Day trains are priced at $295.00 per dog per day, with an additional $15.00 travel fee for clients outside a 15-mile radius. Virtual coaching sessions are $100.00 per 60-minute session, with packages at $280.00 for 3 sessions and $450.00 for 5 sessions. The Puppy Jumpstart program costs $180.00 for a single 60-minute session, with packages ranging from $450.00 for 3 sessions to $1,200.00 for 8 sessions. Virtual Puppy Jumpstart options are also available, starting at $100.00 for a single session.

Grooming services are offered as add-ons to day trains and pack outings, with prices ranging from $10.00 for ear cleaning to $45.00 for a full service bath. Military and senior discounts of 10% off the total price are available with valid ID. Payments are required at the time services are rendered.

Policies

For dogs participating in pack outings or day train activities, Kaulike K9, LLC requires up-to-date annual Bordetella and DHPP vaccines, and a current negative general fecal test. Leptospirosis and Canine Influenza vaccines, along with flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives, are strongly recommended. Owners are responsible for providing vaccination and fecal exam documentation, and failure to do so may result in service cancellation.

Dogs in pack activities and day train services are not required to be spayed or neutered but are handled on a case-by-case basis. Unaltered females in heat will be refused pack-walking and day train services. Kaulike K9, LLC reserves the right to refuse any current or future service to any dog or client as deemed necessary, with no refunds given in such events. All dogs must be in good health and free from contagious conditions or parasites; services may be suspended if fleas/ticks are found until treatment is completed.

While Kaulike K9, LLC strives to maintain dogs’ health, any veterinary visits incurred are at the owner’s expense. They typically feed Open Farm kibble and treats, but owners can provide their own food if preferred. Clients must notify Kaulike K9, LLC of any changes in plans while their dog is in care, as pets may be considered abandoned under Hawaii State Law if owners cannot be contacted 14 days after the scheduled release date. All necessary forms must be signed before the first day of service, and payments are required at the time services are rendered.

Accomplishments

Ashley, an owner and trainer, grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and developed a passion for animals at a young age. She has extensive experience in the animal care field, including wildlife care and rehabilitation, doggie daycare management and socialization, animal rescue, canine and feline boarding and grooming, and basic canine obedience training. She specializes in canine socialization and pack-walking, believing in achieving a balanced dog through structured group activities, proper energy, and exercise.

Makana, also an owner and trainer, was born and raised on O’ahu and is a graduate of Kamehameha School. His interest in animals was reignited through volunteering at the Hawaiian Humane Society. He possesses years of experience in doggie daycare and boarding, as well as working with aggressive dogs. Makana has a strong interest in behavior modification and believes that most unwanted behaviors can be corrected with the right tools, emphasizing that there is no such thing as a “bad” dog.

To begin services with Kaulike K9, LLC, new clients are required to undergo a behavioral consultation. This 30 to 45-minute assessment is conducted by both head trainers, Makana and Ashley, to help determine the most suitable training package or program for the dog’s needs and goals. Prior to this scheduled appointment, clients must disclose any known behavioral issues, bite history, or aggression towards humans or animals on their registration forms.
