Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Positive Reinforcement Only

Kawa Farms K-9 Training offers a month-long Board and Train program for pet dogs, where dogs stay at their facility for 4 weeks or more. An initial assessment is conducted to develop a tailored training program, covering practical situations inside and outside, and exposure to people and other dogs. Regular guided training sessions are scheduled for families to learn the methods used.

Their pet dog training includes “Puppy Start Right” covering potty training, crate training, environmental socialization, and beginning basic manners (sit, down, impulse control, recall, loose leash walking). “Canine Life Skills 1” for dogs 6 months or older focuses on sit, down, stand (hand & verbal cues), impulse control, place/bed/stationing, loose leash walking, ignoring distractions, recall, and polite greetings. They also address behavioral issues such as possessiveness, aggression towards dogs or people (without biting), house training problems, and general bad manners.

Private training for pet dogs is available with multiple options, including once a week or once every two weeks. They also offer an Academy with day training and a boarding school environment. For working K9s, they train scent detection K9s (Search and Rescue, Search and Recovery), Service Dogs, CIRT Dogs, ESAs, Companion, and Therapy dogs. They also conduct working K9 seminars nationwide.

Testimonials

“Jennifer, Taylor, and the rest of the staff at Kawa Farms are truly exceptional in all they do. Jenn took our dog and me into a new world of positive, force-free training, and I am forever grateful for her help. She worked with our dog with compassion and patience to see the fun side of training. He loved it..and her too! Her technique and knowledge of dogs are seriously unbelievable. I’ve never seen anyone hold the attention of a room full of dogs as she does! We could have never overcome our challenges without Jenn or have the incredible relationship that we have with our dog. We love her and would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone!!”
– Melissa Juehring

“I would never in a million years have thought that we would get our crazy fella Diesel to sit on that stool. This wasn’t the exercise Jen had in mind, but it was still a major accomplishment for him. Before her help, he was an out-of-control dog that took off every time the door opened and was on medication. Yes, I said was. Thanks to Jen, he is no longer medicated. He still likes to take his runs from time to time but comes back when called.Jen and Taylor, through their positive reinforcement, have given us the opportunity to enjoy our fur buddy. Talli Rose, our new German Shepard puppy, just joined our family, and I look forward to using what I have learned to teach her properly. Thank you, Jen and Taylor, for your patience. Not only with teaching our pets but also teaching me too!!”
– Pam Richards Deardorff

“My dog Delilah was a brand new dog when I got her back. Her trainer was phenomenal. In just an hour, she taught me everything she taught Delilah. She showed me what Delilah was receptive to and what she was still struggling with. She showed me how to keep up the training, and since then, Delilah has been a phenomenal companion. I am so grateful for Kawa Farms staff”
– Coda Emmett
