Training is delivered through in-home private lessons that begin with a consultation to assess the dog’s behavior and the owner’s goals. Each lesson builds on the previous one, reviewing progress, addressing challenges, and introducing new commands such as sit, down, stay, heel, leave it, and recall. Lessons focus on leadership, obedience with distractions, housebreaking, and behavior modification. Training is customized to fit the dog’s age, breed, and the family’s lifestyle. No intensive or board-and-train programs are offered.

About the Trainer
Laurie Maris is a professional dog trainer who offers in-home private lessons to help dog owners build a stronger, more respectful relationship with their dogs. She focuses on teaching owners how to train their own dogs using practical, positive methods tailored to each dog’s needs, rather than enforcing a single training style. Her approach emphasizes leadership, canine body language, and consistency, helping resolve issues like jumping, barking, chewing, potty training, leash pulling, separation anxiety, and resource guarding. She works with puppies, adult dogs, rescues, and senior dogs of all sizes, and provides behavior modification for complex issues like aggression and fearfulness. Laurie has trained over 100 dogs since relocating to Ohio in 2010 and continues her education through the APDT and ongoing seminars. She also volunteers with animal shelters and prioritizes compassionate, personalized customer service.
Clients receive follow-up support and are encouraged to remain consistent with training. Laurie does not claim to be a behaviorist but specializes in behavior modification through obedience and leadership training. Her services are designed for owners who want to be active participants in their dog’s training journey.
She offers single lessons with flexible pricing, allowing clients to pay per session rather than committing to expensive packages. All training occurs in the client’s home for maximum real-world application.
Accomplishments
Laurie has trained over 100 dogs since 2010 in Central Ohio. She apprenticed with a major dog training franchise in Sacramento, CA, and has earned obedience ribbons and Good Canine Citizen titles with her own dogs. She has volunteered at the Placer SPCA, helping socialize and train shelter dogs. She continues her education through seminars and is a member of the APDT.
