Lead the Way Dog Training offers personalized programs that are not “one-paw-fits-all,” designed to meet each family and dog’s specific needs and goals. All programs begin with a personal consultation with a Senior Canine Behavior Specialist to understand the dog, family, and goals, and to recommend the best program.

Their core programs include the “Paw-fect Host Program” (typically 3 in-home lessons focusing on house manners and basic commands like Sit, Touch, Watch me, Go to your room, Wait, Leave it, Take it), the “Top Paw Program” (a 1-week board and train stay followed by 3 private lessons, covering basic commands, leash manners, Stay, and Place), and the “Freedom Program” (a 2-week board and train stay with unlimited private lessons and unlimited access to public/group classes for a full year, covering comprehensive obedience and long-term support). They also offer special programs for puppies, dogs with anxiety, aggression, or extreme behaviors, and those seeking titles like Canine Good Citizen or therapy dog jobs. Programs typically run from 3-12 months and often include a board and train component.

Testimonials

“I am “over the moon” happy with the results of the Safe Dog Program! I have learned that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks and I am thrilled with the progress that I was able to make with my 10-year-old rescue dog Teddy. Your suggestions to try anxiety meds coupled with teaching him to respond to the clicker, “watch me“ and “touch” commands has definitely helped him begin his journey to being a dog who makes “good choices”. Life at home has become calmer and safer for all of us.”
– Beth

“With Lead the Way’s help Riley became a dog I never imagined she would become. She is a completely different dog compared to when I adopted her just over a year ago. She is my best friend!”
– Heather

“With your continued professional guidance I learned how to listen to what he was asking us for whether it is attention, food, a time out, a calm voice or good workout. There is not a person who comes to the house who doesn’t comment on what a wonderful happy dog we have.”
– Marty and Mike Lombardo

About the Trainer

Lead the Way Dog Training is a business founded by Amy McCaa, dedicated to making a significant impact on the lives of dog owners by transforming chaotic and frustrating dog behaviors into peaceful and enjoyable relationships. They emphasize a sense of community, where clients become part of their family during training, offering ongoing support. The team, including Senior Canine Behavior Specialists, is passionate about various dog-related fields such as rescue, service dogs, therapy dogs, and obedience, combining their knowledge to provide comprehensive training. They pride themselves on being compassionate and making training fun and effective, aiming for fast results.

Beyond training, Lead the Way offers pet sitting services for dogs enrolled in or graduated from their programs. They also provide an online learning platform, LTW University, with various courses on dog behavior and communication. Additionally, they recommend a “Leadership Toolbox” of tested equipment and nutrition products through affiliate links.

Accomplishments

Amy McCaa, the founder, has 20 years of experience training dogs and helping people communicate with them. She stays current with significant discoveries in behavior and incorporates them into training. The team consists of experienced trainers with passions in areas like rescue, service dogs, therapy dogs, and obedience.

How to Get Started!

The process begins with a complimentary phone consultation to discuss the dog, family, challenges, and history. This prepares Amy McCaa for the next step, a 1-on-1 Introductory Lesson conducted virtually via Zoom. This paid lesson (fee credited upon program enrollment) allows Amy to observe family dynamics, address pressing challenges, and provide immediate “training games” and tools. Following this, clients receive a personalized Behavior Modification Plan, practice exercises with video references, and a session write-up. The final step is Program Enrollment, where the team provides personalized program recommendations and discusses investment options.
