Longsnouts offers a variety of training programs including in-person group classes, workshops, and private in-home sessions. Group classes often have rolling admissions, allowing clients to join at any time, with exceptions for “Confident Puppy” and “Calm + Connection” classes. Many classes are held outdoors in Greater Ann Arbor, while scent work classes take place at their barn in Dexter.
Private sessions and 1:1 Day Training are available for specific behavioral issues, foundational work, or when schedules require more flexibility. They also offer a “Puppy Raising” program where puppies live with Hannah to establish strong foundations in housetraining, crate training, polite walking, recall, and safe exposure. Additionally, Longsnouts hosts workshops, a “Dog Nerd Bookclub,” and free Urban Pack Walks for practice and socialization.
Pricing & Policies
Pricing Summary
For group classes, Longsnouts uses a “Play Card” system, which is a 5-class punch card valid for 90 days from purchase. Single class purchases are also available for most classes. Monthly meetups and Urban Pack Walks are offered at no cost. Pricing for in-home and private sessions is provided after clients complete a Discovery Survey.
Policies
The “Play Card” for classes is valid for 90 days from the date of purchase, unless otherwise discussed with the instructor. For outdoor classes, the general rule is no inclement weather, with temperatures needing to be above 32 F in winter and below 90 F in summer. In case of inclement weather, classes may be moved to their barn in Dexter or paused for a week. Urban Pack Walks require RSVPs and have a 10 person/dog limit; they proceed if the weather is above 32 F and there is no rain or heavy snow.
About the Trainer
Longsnouts Dog Training focuses on using modern, science- and reinforcement-based training to enrich the human-canine relationship. Their goal is to help dogs become relaxed, confident, and well-mannered, able to successfully navigate the human world.
The training emphasizes real-world skills for real-life partnership, whether for hiking, city exploring, or mastering daily chaos. Longsnouts aims to create wonderful sidekicks and excellent partnerships, encouraging new skills and sports while having fun. They prioritize clear communication and dialogue, fostering a relationship that is more conversation than strict obedience.
Hannah Ashmore is the Lead Advocate, Educator & Trainer, bringing a fun-focused, reward-based approach. She has a particular fondness for working with puppies, fear-based dogs, and teenaged dogs, finding them most responsive to clear communication and positive reinforcement, force-free methods. Longsnouts offers group classes, workshops, private sessions, and a unique puppy raising program where puppies live with Hannah for foundational training.
Accomplishments
Hannah Ashmore, the Lead Advocate, Educator & Trainer at Longsnouts, has been involved in dog training since 1998. Hannah is a nationally certified dog trainer via CCPDT since 2017, a Certified Scentwork Instructor via UKCSD since 2019, and a Certified Canine Strength & Conditioning Coach. She is also an AKC Canine Good Citizen & Trick Title Evaluator and is actively training with Michigan Search & Rescue since 2017. How to Get Started!
To begin training, clients are encouraged to fill out a brief “Discovery Survey” questionnaire. After reviewing the responses, the Longsnouts team will contact the client, typically by email, with clarifying questions or suggestions and appropriate pricing. Clients who already know what services they need can proceed directly to registration for classes, walks, or workshops.
