Love on a Leash, LLC offers a range of dog training programs. Puppy Pre-School (7 weeks, $175) focuses on attention, basic commands, manners, and socialization for puppies 12-25 weeks, including confidence-building with agility obstacles. Basic Obedience (7 weeks, $175) is for dogs 22 weeks and older, covering attention, sit/down/stand, stay, wait, come, loose leash walking, heel, no jumping, leave it/get it, targeting, and accepting handling.

Functional/Advanced Obedience (7 weeks, $175) requires a basic obedience prerequisite and focuses on impulse control, distractions, and distance work, preparing dogs for the Canine Good Citizen test. Agility classes range from Beginning Agility (7 weeks, $175) introducing obstacles, to Intermediate (7 weeks, $150), Intermediate II, Advanced, and Competition Agility (drop-in, $20) focusing on handling techniques and course running.

Specialized classes include Therapy Dog Training, Intro to Nosework (6 weeks), and Fit Dog Classes which meet AKC Fit Dog requirements. Private lessons are available for $60 per hour.

Pricing Summary

Group classes such as Puppy Pre-School, Basic Obedience, Functional/Advanced Obedience, and Beginning Agility cost $175 for 7 weeks, with each class lasting 1 hour. Intermediate Agility classes are $150 for 7 weeks.

Drop-in agility classes are available for $20 per class. Private lessons are offered at $60 per hour. A nonrefundable $25 deposit is required to secure a spot in classes, which is applied towards the total class payment. The remaining balance is due on the first night of class, payable by cash or checks only.

Policies

A $25 nonrefundable deposit is required to secure a spot in class. If a class is full, the deposit/payment can be applied to a different class, private lesson, or returned. Once enrolled, the deposit is nonrefundable but transferable in certain cases.

About the Trainer

Love on a Leash, LLC is a dog training and agility training business located in Harrisonburg, VA. Their mission is to help people live in harmony with their dogs by teaching owners how to understand and motivate their dogs using rewards-based training methods. The facility features a 60′ x 100′ climate-controlled building with rubber matting.

They offer a variety of classes including Agility, pet obedience (Puppy Pre-School, Basic Obedience, Functional/Advanced Obedience), Canine Good Citizen classes and tests, competition obedience, rally classes, seminars, and private instruction for problem solving. Electric collars are not allowed on the premises.

Accomplishments

Sheli Riglemon Rhodes, the owner, has been involved in dog training since 1983 and introduced positive dog training in 1994. She is an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator and a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers. She has hosted and attended workshops and seminars with notable trainers like Julie Daniels, Chris Zink, Jean Donaldson, Leslie Nelson, Jane Killian, Stacy Peardot-Goudy, and Susan Garrett.

She has also attended the APDT Conference and Wiz Kid Dog Camp for Julie Daniels Agility Instructors Certification course, co-instructing Intermediate agility the following year. Her dogs have achieved multiple agility championships (MACH titles) and other obedience/rally titles.

Other instructors also have significant accomplishments: Molly Brennan is APDT certified and has trained therapy and service dogs. Dr. Kathryn Dobyns, a DVM, is a Certified Canine Fitness Trainer and has competed successfully in Rally Obedience, Agility, K9 NoseWork, and AKC ScentWork with her dog Hunter, who achieved MACH2. Char Turner is a Certified Canine Strength and Conditioning Coach, AKC Fit Dog Instructor, Certified Trick Dog Instructor, AKC Trick Dog Evaluator, and AKC Farm Dog Certified Judge, with a BS in Animal Health Science and a background as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Wendy Pendleton has earned multiple agility championship titles and competed internationally.

How to Get Started!

To register for classes, clients must pre-register by downloading and completing a class registration form or by providing their name, complete address, phone number, email address, dog’s name, age, breed, and desired class on regular paper. A $25 deposit must be sent by mail to 3225 Harpine Hwy. Rockingham, Va. 22802, or dropped off at the training building, to secure a spot.

Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The balance of the class fee is due on the first night of class, payable by cash or checks only. For Therapy Dog Training, Nosework, and Fit Dog classes, clients must contact the specific instructor listed for that class. Private lessons are scheduled by phone.
