About the Trainer

Lucky Dog Too – Training & Enrichment Center, also known as Lucky Dog Luxury Daycare & Boarding, is a pet care facility established in 2013. They offer a range of services including dog daycare, luxury boarding, professional grooming, and force-free dog training. The center emphasizes a cage-free environment where pets can play or rest freely, with nearly 10,000 sq feet of indoor and outdoor playrooms.

Their facilities feature radiant heat to keep pets comfortable, especially those with arthritis or joint problems, and a state-of-the-art ventilation system to circulate and remove contagious air. The staff consists of over 30 mature, experienced caregivers, including licensed veterinary technicians, adult trainers, and pet care professionals, many with years of experience in the animal field. They are committed to providing quality customer service and loving care, ensuring pets are supervised by individuals knowledgeable in dog behavior and animal instincts.

For training, Lucky Dog provides certified, experienced force-free trainers and behavior specialists who use positive reinforcement techniques, prohibiting the use of choke, pinch, or shock collars. Training options include private and group sessions, available at their facility, in the client’s home, or as part of a board-and-train or day-training program. They also offer in-home pet sitting services, a pet store with natural goodies and supplies, microchipping, a DIY dog wash, and 12 webcams for owners to view their pets.

Accomplishments

The business was started in 2013 by Stacy, who began her veterinary career in 1985, working as a veterinary technician and spending five years at an animal emergency hospital in Chicago, followed by 19 years at Plaza Veterinary Hospital. She is also an Advanced Master Gardener.

Staff members include Sara, a playroom supervisor and reception desk manager with almost 10 years of professional pet care experience, who has worked as a Veterinary Assistant and is a kennel manager for Providing for Paws Rescue, with separate training in leash control and dog behavior. Rachel is a Licensed Veterinary Technician who graduated from Wayne State, with over 27 years of pet care experience, including work at pet stores, kennels, vet offices, and wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.

Jean Carew, a key asset to the training staff, is a nationally known, certified pet behavior counselor and force-free trainer with over twenty years of experience. She is known as the “Behavior Guru” and is professionally educated through the Animal Behavior College. Jean is a member in good standing with both the International Association of Dog Behavior Counselors (IAABC) and the Professional Pet Guild (PPG).

How to Get Started!

For daycare and boarding, dogs are required to pass a temperament test, which is a 5-10 minute meet and greet with another dog away from the owners. These tests are free and conducted seven days a week between 10:30 am-12:00 noon and 1:30 pm-3:30 pm, with no appointment needed. Clients must print and fill out an enrollment form and provide current vaccination records from their veterinarian, which can be brought in, emailed to contact@luckydoggardencity.com, or faxed to 734-261-8245.

For training, interested clients should call 734-261-7387, contact them via their Facebook page (@Lucky Dog Luxury Daycare & Boarding), or email luckydoggardencity@yahoo.com for more information. A Training Enrollment Form is also available for download.
