Magic’s Legacy Herding

Magic’s Legacy offers a Beginners Program for those new to herding, as well as training for all levels from novice through advanced competition. Training is conducted on a one-to-one basis through private lessons, with many students booking weekly sessions for consistent progress. Clinics are offered as group sessions to work on particular skills, and the farm also hosts herding instinct tests and formal trials. Dogs work with live sheep and ducks, which are raised on the farm specifically for training. Handlers can choose to learn to work their dog themselves or have Shannon work their dog for them.

Spectators are always welcome to observe lessons, instinct tests, or trials.

Accomplishments

Shannon Wolfe has worked with herding dogs professionally since 1990. Her sheepherding performances at the Walworth County Fair (WI) in 2012 received national recognition. She has been chosen by the City of Chicago for the Celtic Fest Demonstrations since 2004, and has performed at numerous other public events for 10-20+ years, including the Wisconsin Highland Games, Lake County Forest Preserve/Ryerson Woods Spring Festival, and St. Andrews Scottish Society Games at Oak Brook Polo Club.

How to Get Started!

To get started, clients should first have their dog tested for herding instinct. After the dog shows interest, clients can book a beginner lesson. Shannon can be emailed for available lesson dates. Clients are encouraged to bring washable clothes, sturdy shoes, water, snacks, a buckle-collar, and a 6-foot leash for their dog. Extended Flexi-type leashes are not allowed. Dogs must be vaccinated for Rabies and other communicable diseases, and be parasite-free.
