Marin Pet Care Pros offers three Board & Train programs. Puppy Preschool provides foundational training for new puppies as young as 8 weeks, covering crate and potty training, bite inhibition, and socialization. The Good Manners program is for dogs and puppies aged 4 months and up, focusing on specific commands such as SIT, DOWN, STAY, RECALL/COME, LOOSE LEASH WALKING/HEEL, OFF, DROP IT, LEAVE IT, and WAIT, along with tricks. The Back to School, Cutie! program offers a customized training review or fine-tuning for dogs and older puppies who have had prior training.

All Board & Train programs require a minimum stay of one week, with two weeks recommended for optimal results, and conclude with a complimentary Training Debrief. These programs include daily supervised socialization with other balanced dogs and puppies. The trainer does not offer services for aggression, biting of humans or other animals, resource guarding, or separation anxiety.

Pricing Summary

An In-Depth Training Consultation costs $200 for 1.5 hours. Board & Train programs are priced at $250 per day for the first week, with a 20% discount applied to the second week, reducing the rate to $200 per day. Half of the consultation fee is applied to the cost of the first Board & Train week.

For boarding, dogs aged 1 year and up are $90 per day, while puppies up to 1 year are $105 per day, reflecting the additional care required for puppies. Half-day rates for boarding are available at $45 for dogs and $52.50 for puppies, applicable when boarding begins at 5 PM or later, or ends by 12 PM (with a 1 PM grace period) the next day.

Daycare for dogs aged 1 year and up is $75 per day, and for puppies up to 1 year, it is $85 per day; half-day rates are not offered for daycare. Weekend daycare is available at the respective boarding rates ($90/day for dogs, $105/day for puppies). Services requested on major public holidays incur an additional $10 fee per day per dog.

Policies

All services (boarding, daycare, and Board & Train) must be pre-paid to secure a spot. Cancellations require at least 48 hours’ notice, or one week’s notice for major holidays and peak periods (June-August, November-January). No refunds are issued for cancellations, but a credit for future services may be provided. For cancellations made with less than the required notice, no refund or credit will be given, except for boarding during major holidays, where half of the pre-paid fee may be credited or refunded.

All dogs and puppies must be vaccinated, including for Bordetella (kennel cough), and be on a flea preventative. Clients are required to email proof of vaccination prior to their new client meeting. Puppies under 4 months need proof of participation in their customary vaccination series. Marin Pet Care Pros does not accept intact dogs over 7 months of age or female dogs in season. Clients must disclose all health and behavior problems their dog may have. The trainer does not work with dogs exhibiting aggression, biting of humans or other animals, resource guarding, or separation anxiety. Training results are not guaranteed and may vary based on the dog’s teachability, readiness, and temperament. The trainer reserves the right to modify the training plan or terminate training, with client consultation.

Marin Pet Care Pros (MPCP) offers private home daycare, boarding, and Board & Train programs in a safe, dog-friendly, and supervised environment. They provide all-day play with a natural rest period midday, ensuring stimulation, exercise, fun, and respite for canine guests to stay happy and balanced.

The business is licensed, bonded, insured, and Pet First Aid/CPR certified. Puppies of all ages are welcome, and all dogs in their care are vaccinated.

Some dogs participate in their Board & Train program to brush up on commands or begin foundational training. Marin Pet Care Pros has been serving Marin dog guardians for 18 years, emphasizing professionalism, experience, and loving care, treating every dog as their own.

The owner, Basia Tolscik, is a Certified Basic Obedience Trainer who uses positive reinforcement and redirection methods, without the use of choke, prong, or shock collars. Training is conducted with and without treats, adapting to each dog’s unique needs.

Board & Train programs are held at the trainer’s dog-centered, smoke-free, and secure home in Novato, CA, offering ample indoor and outdoor space for play. Each stay includes daily supervised socialization, and pups sleep indoors as part of the family, only crated if it’s part of their training or home routine.

Accomplishments

Basia Tolscik, M.A., is the owner of Marin Pet Care Pros and a Certified Basic Obedience Trainer with over 18 years of experience in dog training. She holds two Master’s degrees, one in Teaching and another in Organization and Leadership. Basia is certified in Pet First Aid and Pet CPR, with her most recent recertification completed in March 2023. She is a member of the Association for Professional Dog Training International (APDT) and the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP). Additionally, she previously volunteered with the San Francisco SPCA as a dog walker and cat socializer.

How to Get Started!

To begin services, potential clients must schedule an in-person visit with their dog or puppy at Marin Pet Care Pros in Novato, CA, to ensure comfort with the environment. For Board & Train programs, clients should download and print the “List of Board & Train Behaviors and Commands” and then schedule a 1.5-hour In-Depth Training Consultation, which costs $200 and can be conducted via Zoom or in person at MPCP.
