About the Trainer
Marion-Alachua Dog Training Association (MADTA) is a volunteer, nonprofit club established in 1981, welcoming all dogs, both mixed breed and purebred, to their training classes. They offer classes in Obedience, Rally, Agility, Scent work, and Conformation, and club membership is not required to participate in training.
MADTA is an American Kennel Club (AKC) affiliate, hosting AKC trials, matches, seminars, and special demonstrations. They emphasize developing understanding and friendship between dog and owner through diligent training.
They utilize proven Positive Reinforcement training methods, aiming for classes to be an enjoyable “game” for dogs. Their philosophy focuses on dogs learning through advantageous experiences to foster a happy dog that desires to please its owner.
The facility provides opportunities for practice sessions and simulated dog show run-thrus. All instructors are volunteers available to assist with dog-related questions or problems, and they offer references for situations they cannot handle. MADTA’s goals are to promote good canine citizenship and well-loved family members. They also host competition trials in Obedience, Rally, Agility, Scent work, and Coursing (FastCAT), along with dog-related seminars on training methods, conditioning, and wellness. The organization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity dedicated to the betterment of dogs.
