About the Trainer
The Milwaukee Dog Training Club (MDTC) is an inclusive nonprofit organization founded in 1929, dedicated to creating better relationships between dogs, their handlers, and the community. As the Midwest’s oldest obedience club, MDTC offers comprehensive training programs in obedience, agility, flyball, scent hurdles, and Rally obedience.
Their training program is based on American Kennel Club (AKC) trial rules and regulations, preparing dogs for AKC competitions while also developing well-mannered companions for everyday urban living. The club prides itself on promoting responsible dog ownership and care by offering low-cost dog obedience classes to the Milwaukee community.
Membership includes access to twice-weekly obedience classes throughout the year, opportunities to participate in scent hurdles or Rally, and various social activities like monthly “Social Sunday” potlucks and holiday gatherings. Members can also participate in community exhibitions such as local parades and festivals. Additionally, members receive discounts on Puppy Class and Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification, along with a monthly newsletter.
Accomplishments
Founded in 1929 as the German Shepherd Dog Club, the organization was incorporated in 1936 and adopted its current name, Milwaukee Dog Training Club (MDTC), in 1938. It holds the distinction of being the Midwest’s oldest obedience club and one of the region’s most established training organizations.
MDTC has been licensed by the AKC for obedience trials since 1969, building a reputation for competitive excellence. In 2019, the club achieved non-profit status, and in 2024, it acquired a new facility on Cornell Street.
