Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Balanced Training

MJ’s Dog Training focuses on teaching humans how to train their dogs, with the trainer guiding clients step-by-step. Training is available for any dog or puppy, regardless of age, size, breed, or issue, covering both obedience and behavior modification. Private sessions are offered, which can take place in the client’s home or a public setting depending on the dog’s readiness and goals.

Programs include an initial assessment, pay-as-you-go hourly sessions, and bundles of 4 or 8 sessions. The 4-session bundle covers communication basics, leash pressure, marker words, food luring, introduction to PLACE and Down, impulse control, and heel/loose leash walking. The 8-session bundle expands on this, including thresholds, reactivity (part 1 & 2), and public outings, ideal for severe anxiety or behavior modification. Puppy training covers potty training, leash introduction, routine creation, crate training, exposure to various stimuli, desensitization for grooming/vet handling, and stopping common puppy behaviors like jumping, nipping, barking, and chewing.

About the Trainer

MJ’s Dog Training LLC is a dog training business founded by MJ, a military veteran who began her dog training career in 2016 after graduating from Animal Behavior College. The business focuses on training humans to train their dogs, offering guidance step-by-step for success. MJ’s passion for training was inspired by her own dog, Riley, who faced challenges with anxiety and reactivity.

The business aims to spread awareness, educate dog owners, and help build better relationships between humans and their furry companions. They offer private sessions for various issues, from puppy training to behavior modification, and also cover dog sports.

Accomplishments

MJ was honorably discharged from the military in 2014. She started her career at a kennel, progressing from kennel tech to Playgroup Leader. She graduated from Animal Behavior College in 2016, completing a five-month program covering basic obedience and learning theory, and gained hands-on experience volunteering at Best Friends Animal Society in California. She has continued to expand her knowledge through seminars and online courses.

How to Get Started!

To get started, clients must first complete an assessment, which typically lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours. During the assessment, the trainer gathers information about the dog’s history and daily life, discusses nutrition, appropriate tools, exercise, and play, and begins establishing a foundation for training. After the assessment, a training plan is developed, and clients can then schedule individual 1-hour sessions or purchase bundles of 4 or 8 sessions. All inquiries should be made via call/text to +1-541-790-9602 or email to mjsdogtrainingllc@yahoo.com.
