Both board and train packages include a training collar (Martingale and gentle vibrate collar for the 4-week program), weekly owner training lessons during boarding, and free lifetime obedience maintenance lessons (2 for 2-week, 4 for 4-week).
They also provide Private Lesson packages: 6 Private Lessons for basic obedience or specific behavioral concerns, taken at the client’s pace at various locations (home, park, walks), and a 1 Week 6 Private Lessons package which includes one week of in-home work with the dog followed by private lessons. All private lesson packages include a training collar.
They teach a wide range of commands and address behavioral concerns, including basic obedience (sit, down, come, heel, place, no, off, free, wait, kennel), behavior modifications (leash control, separation anxiety, excessive barking, feeding time, socialization, proper greeting, toys etiquette, begging, impulse control, furniture jumping, counter surfing, mouthing/nipping), and advanced commands/games (drop it, back, get it, leave it, bring it, don’t beg, upstairs/downstairs). They also offer public access training for emotional support, therapy, and service dogs (place, under, block, up (pressure therapy), nudge or lick to disrupt, pull). For anything beyond basic obedience, they assess the individual dog’s needs before booking.

Testimonials
“My golden retriever is much better disciplined all around, from being able to walk off leash in the park to not jumping on people when he greets them. There are only a handful of people I trust to take care of Nautica, and Kevin is one of them.”
– Michael S.
“Ruger, was fenceline fighting, controlling me on walks, food aggressive, and acting like a bully to my other dogs. We chose to do a month of training and visited twice a week so Kevin could work with us along with our dog. Ruger is now well-behaved and confident!”
– Krista W.
“What I appreciated the most was that Kevin trained _me_ , and gave me a better handle on how to keep my dog in line moving forward. Not to mention, a few weeks later when I wanted a refresher, Kevin was so kind to do a two hour training session at my house!”
– Laura H.
About the Trainer
More Dog Than Human is a family-operated dog training business run by Kevin and Heidi in the Kansas City metro area. They pride themselves on living a harmonious, animal-filled life, with their kids and dogs (Bollah and Daisy) even helping with training. They aim to provide a family-oriented, small-batch dog training experience where your dog becomes part of their pack.
With over 20 years of combined experience, Kevin and Heidi offer a full-spectrum, balanced approach to training, focusing on long-lasting results. They use positive reinforcement with patience and repetition, rather than treats, to build trust and respect with dogs. Their number one priority is the safety and health of your pup, training in small batches to ensure personalized attention to each dog’s mental and physical well-being.
Training takes place at their home, which includes eight acres specifically designed for dog training, featuring both on- and off-leash areas, as well as group and solo play yards. They prioritize safety with a double gate system to prevent dogs from getting loose, and all time spent with other dogs is supervised. They train both the dog and the family, helping owners understand dog psychology and maintain training results.
Accomplishments
Kevin and Heidi, the trainers at More Dog Than Human, share over 20 years of combined experience in dog training.
