Testimonials
“We took in a foster dog who was described as ‘cuddly’ but within a few weeks he had bit my significant other several times… After his time boarding with them, even though we didn’t expect much of a change… he truly was like another dog.”
– Client
“Gene and Berk are amazing!!!! I dropped my 18 week old golden retriever Howie off at their program and picked up a completely different puppy.”
– Client
“My puppy attended the training program with Gene… When I dropped her off, she was anxious, biting, jumping, scared of everything… After I got her back, she was attentive and obedient.”

About the Trainer
New Hope Dog Training Center is a professional dog training facility in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, led by certified trainer Gene Lonsway, known as Mister Obedience™, who has been training dogs since 1985. They specialize in in-board (board and train) programs that last three weeks, where dogs stay at their state-of-the-art 3,000-square-foot facility with indoor and outdoor training areas, including a climate-controlled kennel and five acres of natural terrain. Their training philosophy emphasizes teaching dogs that obedience is mandatory, not optional, focusing on reliability even in distracting environments. They offer three mandatory owner lessons via Zoom to ensure dogs respond to owners as well as trainers. They guarantee results with a 100% money-back guarantee if owners complete all lessons and the dog shows significant improvement.
They train all breeds and ages, from puppies to senior dogs, and specialize in family pets and multi-dog households. Common issues addressed include leash pulling, jumping, barking, chewing, housebreaking, reactivity, and recall. They also offer multi-dog discounts and have trained dogs for the Durham Bulls baseball team. Their facility is designed for canine comfort with epoxy floors, multiple heating zones, and spacious runs.
Additional services include pet boarding and kennel care. They do not offer grooming, walking, or daycare as advertised services. Training is conducted exclusively at their facility, not in-home or in group classes.
