Oak Creek Retrievers offers several structured training programs. The Head Start Puppy Training is for approved puppies aged 8-16 weeks, focusing on potty training. The Head Start Retriever Training is a 1-month course for retriever puppies aged 4-5 months, emphasizing socialization, introduction to birds, swimming, gun shots, and cultivating retrieving desire.

The All Breed Obedience program is a 2-month course for dogs 6 months to 4 years old (over 25lbs), with the first month covering on-leash compliance and the second month focusing on advanced off-leash control. The Started Retriever Program, typically 4-6 months, transforms approved retrievers into reliable gun dogs, covering on-leash and off-leash compliance, force fetch, and steadiness to shot, preparing them for UKC or AKC Started and Junior titles.

For the most advanced dogs, the Advanced Retriever Training is offered on a month-by-month basis for those who have completed the Started program. This elite training includes retrieving blinds, remembering multiple bird falls, honoring other dogs, whistle commands, hand signals, and rigorous technical handling drills. Additionally, they provide Hunt Test Training for dogs that have completed their Retriever Training Program, preparing them for UKC & AKC Hunt Tests from Junior through Master levels.

The business is owned by Chris Krause, an avid outdoorsman and waterfowl hunter whose lifelong experience in the duck blind ignited his passion for dog training. This background provides him with unique insight into the desired qualities of a working dog.

With over a decade of professional experience, Chris and his family are dedicated to helping clients achieve or surpass their training goals. In addition to training, Oak Creek Retrievers also offers dog boarding services and sells puppies, started dogs, and studs.

Accomplishments

Chris Krause, the owner of Oak Creek Retrievers, has been an avid outdoorsman and waterfowl hunter his entire life. His passion for dog training was ignited in 2008 after acquiring his first Labrador. He actively joined local training clubs and practiced by training friends’ dogs.

By 2009, Chris earned certifications in animal behavior and training from Animal Behavior College and Penn Foster Career School. In early 2011, he began an apprenticeship under the renowned retriever trainer Steve Hendricks of Hendricks Kennels. By 2012, Chris advanced to become Hendricks’ first Kennel Manager & Lead Trainer, during which time he personally trained over 2,500 dogs, ranging from basic obedience to advanced Master Hunters. He has more than 10 years of professional dog training experience.
