Obedience Training Club Inc

The Obedience Training Club of Chugiak offers three sessions of classes for the public annually, beginning in September, January, and March. Classes are held at the CBA building and typically run for 8 weeks.

Current offerings include Beginner Obedience and CGC/Tricks, both taught by Instructor Cheryl Mallonee on Tuesdays in the evening. Additional classes offered throughout the year include Intermediate Obedience, Intro to Rally/Obedience, Rally Intermediate Workshop, and Show n Go. They also provide AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy and Canine Good Citizen programs.

The training philosophy emphasizes owner participation, stating “It’s the owner who trains the dog.” Classes aim to build confidence and teach practical skills such as loose lead walking, sit, down, stay, come, and leave it. For the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy class, topics include housetraining, chewing, and recall, with vaccination records required.

Pricing Summary

Classes are priced at $85.00 per session. Payment can be made via PayPal to hold a spot, or by check at the first class if noted in the registration email. For the Trick Class, evaluations and ribbons are included in the class price. Regular Club members receive reduced training and class fees, while Associate members are not eligible for these reduced rates.

Policies

New members must submit a membership form with two Club member sponsors, have it read at two monthly General Membership Meetings, and then be voted on. Shot records are required to be brought to the first class for participants. Dues submitted without a corresponding membership application will be considered a Club donation if an application is not received by the end of the physical year.

The Obedience Training Club of Chugiak (OTCC) was founded in 1966 and is sanctioned by the American Kennel Club. Their primary goal is to educate the Chugiak/Eagle River community on responsible dog ownership and provide obedience instruction.

OTCC offers three sessions of public classes annually, starting in September, January, and March. Club members also have access to practice time on the CBA training field during summer months.

How to Get Started!

To register for classes, clients must complete a registration form and pay the $85 class fee via PayPal to secure their spot. Alternatively, payment by check at the first class is possible if noted in the email. The completed registration form and PayPal receipt should be emailed to sitstay@otccalaska.com. Clients will then receive a confirmation email once their spot is reserved. Shot records must be brought to the first class. Classes for Cycle 2 begin on January 14th, 2025, and run for 8 weeks.
