OTCGL offers six 6-week class terms each year, with 2-4 week breaks between terms. Not all classes are held every term, and some have prerequisites. Classes are divided into Limited Enrollment and Drop-In.

Limited Enrollment classes provide individualized, hands-on instruction, build upon skills, and require registration. Drop-in classes are for those with basic knowledge, led by instructors who answer questions but may not offer individual attention, and do not require registration. Classes are designed for both well-mannered pets (e.g., Puppy, Household classes) and competitive sports, with levels from beginner to expert.

Pricing & Policies

Pricing Summary

Limited enrollment classes are priced per 6-week term: 30-minute classes are $80, 45-minute classes are $100. Special Program classes like Reactive Dog and Tracking are $150 and are not eligible for the Platinum Pass. Drop-in classes cost $15 per session ($10 for designated run-through classes). Veterans and current military personnel receive a $10 discount on classes.

A Platinum Pass provides significant savings and includes free unlimited drop-in classes. Ring rental is $10 per hour for members ($5 if vacuuming one ring) and $20 per hour for non-members. Current instructors can rent rings for free. Practice matches cost $6 for the first entry and $4 for the second entry of the same dog.

Policies

Cancellations received by the registration closing date receive a full refund. Cancellations after the closing date receive a refund less a $10 administrative fee. Refunds must be requested within 48 hours after the first class session. A full refund will be issued if an instructor deems a dog unsuitable for group classes due to excessive barking, reactivity, disruptiveness, or aggressive tendencies.

Daytime classes are cancelled when Lansing Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather. Night classes are cancelled when Lansing Public Schools cancel after-school and evening activities. Cancellations are posted on the OTCGL Facebook page.

OTCGL is an all-volunteer group with over 90 members who contribute their time and expertise. Membership is not required to take classes, but it offers benefits like discounted Platinum Pass and ring rental fees. They are committed to positive reinforcement training methods, explicitly prohibiting punishment-based techniques and certain equipment.

How to Get Started!

To get started with classes, students must review general info, policies, and training rules before attending. For limited enrollment classes, registration is required, and payment is due at the time of registration. Registration for upcoming terms opens on specific dates (e.g., June 16 at 7 pm for July/August term classes). Drop-in classes do not require registration.

For membership, applicants must participate in 3 OTCGL activities or events, attend a membership meeting for introduction, and then be voted upon at the next meeting. Membership applications and dues can be submitted. Ring rental can be reserved online.
