Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ primarily positive with mild corrections
Ohio State K-9 College offers customized dog training courses, not pre-set programs with fixed prices. The three most requested courses are Obedience (Level 1: 5 basic commands), Behavior (solving problems like jumping, chewing, biting, barking), and Housebreaking (a strict 12-18 step system).
Advanced Obedience includes Level 2 (Whisper Commands for distant control), Level 3 (Hand Commands for focus), and Level 4 (Total Control Course, combining all three levels for maximum command control by utilizing all 5 senses). Protection Courses include Watch Dog (bark to protect property), Guard Dog (bark and bite to protect property), Personal Protection (bark, bite, or both to protect people, not on command), and Attack Dog (bark and bite on command for offensive training). All protection courses include an “OFF” command for aggression.
Specialized Courses include Poison Control (prevents accepting food from strangers) and Defiance (dog obeys only master/alternative persons). Custom Courses cover specific commands (e.g., upstairs, wait), boundary training, professional fetch, hunting (birds, ducks, rabbit), and tracking (search and rescue). All courses are determined after a personal evaluation by the Master Trainer.

About the Trainer
Ohio State K-9 College is a dog training school led by Master Trainer Joey Byas, who has over 47 years of experience since 1978. The college emphasizes a “state of the art system” that focuses on a 100% voice control method, an expert one-on-one training style, and the Master Trainer’s extensive experience. They aim to teach dog owners how to handle their dogs correctly to achieve complete off-leash control and stabilize the dog’s personality.
The school offers customized training tailored to individual dog and owner needs, rather than fixed-price, assembly-line programs. They strongly advocate against the use of choke, spike, shock collars, and treat-based training, asserting these methods cause pain, fear, or create behavioral problems. Their approach prioritizes building respect and a strong bond between the dog and owner through verbal commands and praise.
Ohio State K-9 College provides comprehensive training for obedience, behavior modification, housebreaking, and various levels of protection training. They also offer specialized courses like defiance and poison control, and custom commands. The school believes in transparency, providing extensive information on their website to help potential clients understand the quality differences in dog training before committing.
