Testimonials

Amazing community
They practice balanced dog training and have advanced classes for people and dogs who want to compete But also have classes for beginners
My dog finished novice and is now in trial procedures

I am so happy to have found this club! The instructors are kind, skilled, and there to help you and your dog be better. I’m a pet dog trainer and take their competition classes. I’ve watched several of the beginner and puppy classes offered, they look like so much fun! I’ve recommended a few of my own training clients to take classes here as the distraction of a different space, dogs, and activity is great for them. They were interested in competition too so all the better. The instructors are great at rewarding when needed and also making it clear to the dogs that some things, like jumping or barking for attention, just aren’t going to fly here. I look forward to my classes weekly and I’m so grateful to have found somewhere that offers so many classes from the new puppy owner to the seasoned professional. 10 out of 10!

My friend is taking her very large 4 year old dog for training. He is doing so well after just 2 classes. Expecting great things by end of their trading course!

Great place to learn how to effectively train your dog and learn how to show at obedience trials if you decide to go that route.

Instructors have anger issues and abuse dogs when they lose their little tempers. I took my puppy here awhile back and the FIRST DAY he was excited to see the other dogs and had trouble paying attention and walking in a circle. Which is pretty normal for a puppy on his first day of the class. One the instructors got mad and started dragging him by the neck with a pinch collar while he’s scared and crying. Awful place haven’t heard a good thing about it from anyone I know that have been there

About the Trainer

Oklahoma City Obedience Training Club (OCOTC) is a nonprofit, volunteer-run dog training organization with over 60 years of experience helping dog owners train their pets in obedience, rally, and scent work. Classes are held in a dedicated training facility at 6629 NW 23rd, Bethany, OK, and are designed for all breeds and ages, from puppies to senior dogs. OCOTC offers group classes only, with no private, home, or board-and-train services. Their curriculum emphasizes positive, balanced training methods and includes beginner, novice, and advanced levels, with many graduates progressing to AKC obedience and rally trials. OCOTC is the first AKC-licensed club in Oklahoma to host official Scent Work trials and also offers a Therapy Dog program for dogs and handlers preparing for community service work. All instructors are volunteers with deep experience in dog training and competition.

The club maintains small class sizes and enforces policies to ensure safety and focus, including limiting attendance to one handler per dog, requiring proof of vaccinations, and encouraging social distancing. OCOTC does not offer conformation, service dog, or private training, but provides a structured, community-driven environment ideal for owners seeking to compete or improve their dog’s behavior in a group setting.

OCOTC also supports the local community through a scholarship program for third-year veterinary students at Oklahoma State University and hosts two AKC trials annually in spring and fall.

Accomplishments

OCOTC is the first AKC-licensed club in Oklahoma to host official AKC Scent Work Trials, holding the first two such trials in Oklahoma in 2017. The club has trained hundreds of dogs annually for over 60 years and has produced multiple AKC titled dogs. OCOTC also supports veterinary education through a scholarship program for third-year students at Oklahoma State University.

How to Get Started!
