One Smart K-9 offers residency training programs including 5 Day Basic Obedience, 7 Day Happy Family Dog, 10 Day Obedience in Motion, 7 Day Off-Leash, and Refresher Training. The 5-day program covers heel with auto-sit, sit & down with stay, hand signals, and leash manners. The 7-day Happy Family Dog program adds come and place mat commands, along with hand signals for come. The 10-day Obedience in Motion program includes more advanced commands such as sit & down in front of the dog, sit in motion, and different hand signals.

The 7-day Off-Leash program reviews all previously taught commands off-leash, requiring prior completion of a residency program and a minimum age of 10 months. Refresher Training is designed for dogs who have already completed a residency, offering a review of obedience in a familiar environment and including boarding. During residency, dogs receive four private lessons daily, are kept on a consistent schedule with ample outside walks, and follow-up lessons are provided to owners to explain commands and transfer leadership.

One Smart K-9 operates an indoor training and boarding facility. Dogs stay in spacious kennels with complimentary fleece service, receive meals twice daily followed by outside walks, and have 24-hour water access. Training sessions occur four times each day, preceded by an outside walk. Kennels are disinfected daily while dogs socialize in the training room, and a final walk is provided at 9 p.m. before lights out.

Accomplishments

Kevin Shellie is the Founder and trainer at One Smart K-9, which he established in 2005. His passion for dogs began in childhood through dog sitting, leading him to explore dog activities like flyball and agility. He gained extensive knowledge in kennel management and dog care while working at a large boarding and training facility, where he advanced to assistant supervisor. Kevin furthered his education at a Dog Training school, earning his certification after successfully passing written and dog handling tests. He is an active member of the International Association of Canine Professionals.

How to Get Started!

To begin training, a free evaluation is required. During this evaluation, clients receive a tour of the facility and a demonstration of dog obedience. A canine questionnaire is completed to gather information, identify problems, and find solutions. The dog’s personality is also assessed to determine how it relates to training, and any questions are answered to help select the right training program to accomplish the owner’s goals.
