Training programs are designed to meet the various needs of both the dog and the owner, with personalized training based on the dog’s abilities and temperament. Evaluations are provided to determine the best course. They educate owners in pack theory and dog psychology associated with breed characteristics. Class sizes are small to allow individual attention, and In-Board training is customized.

They use positive reinforcement along with proven methods including operant conditioning, desensitization, and generalization, working dogs in different locations including the family home and various outdoor environments. They set realistic goals to address unwanted behaviors, establish and improve good conduct, and establish a training routine. Videos are taken and shared with owners.

Fitness & Wellbeing training includes treadmill training for expending energy, building muscle and endurance, and aiding recovery from medical issues, benefiting energetic, overweight, and geriatric dogs. Bike riding on groomed trails is also offered for physical exercise and endurance.

Pricing Summary

Our Town Kennels offers various pricing structures for its services. Training programs include Puppy Pre-school ($150 for 5 weeks), Basic Obedience ($175 for 6 weeks), Intermediate Obedience ($175 for 6 weeks), Advanced Obedience ($250 for 8 weeks), Private Lessons ($300 for 5 weeks), In-Kennel training ($700 for 7 days), In-Home Training ($350), and E-Collar Lessons ($300 for 5 lessons). Evaluations are priced at $75 for regular and $95 for aggression.

Doggy Daycare rates are $15 for a half day and $20 for a full day, with discounts for two dogs from the same family ($31). Combo rates for Obedience + Daycare are $45 for half day and $55 for full day.

Boarding rates are $30/day for dogs under 80 lbs and $32/day for dogs over 80 lbs, with a combo Boarding/Daycare rate of $45/day. Feline boarding is $18/day, and medication administration is an extra $4/day.

K9 Shuttle service within a 10-mile radius costs $15 for pickup or drop-off, or $25 for both, with group rates of $5 per dog for 3 or more. Out-of-state shuttle service has an hourly fee for the first dog, and flat fees for additional dogs ($65 for the second, $50 for each additional).

Policies

Vaccinations, including Bordetella, are required for all dogs, and verification must be provided. Unaltered male dogs are not admitted to daycare.

The facility does not offer 24-hour coverage, but local police and neighborhood watch observe the premises during closed hours. The boarding facility is small, offering personalized attention, and has an open-door policy for viewing during normal business hours. Clients are advised to reserve early due to limited availability.

Owner/Trainer Susan LeClair has over 20 years of experience with working dogs. She holds certifications from Newbury Jr. College and Cornell University, and is American Red Cross Pet First Aid certified.

Susan is affiliated with Schutzhund USA and is a member of the United Doberman Club, both dog working organizations. Her extensive experience includes grooming, obedience training, kennel management, and serving as a senior trainer for a top canine facility in New England. Her specialty is training from puppies to adult education, addressing unruly pooches, and solving problem behaviors.
