Dog Training Methodology
Overdale Kennel offers a variety of training programs, including Obedience Group Classes, Rally Group Classes, Drop-In Pet Training, and Private Lessons.
Obedience Group Classes include Puppy Manners for puppies under 6 months, covering basic commands, loose leash walking, house training, and preventing problem behaviors like jumping, with eligibility for AKC Star Puppy Certification. Beginners classes are for dogs 6 months and older, focusing on heeling, basic commands, recall, and general manners. Advanced Beginners builds on these skills with more complex heeling, stays, and finishes. Rear-End Awareness is a specialized class to develop strength, coordination, and balance, beneficial for both pet owners and competitive dogs. AKC Trick Dog classes teach tricks for the AKC title, including testing. Novice classes work towards off-leash proficiency, while Competitive Novice is a drop-in class designed to prepare dogs and handlers for competitive obedience and rally events, covering advanced handling and focus work. Most group classes run for 6 weeks, one hour per week, costing $120.00.
Rally Group Classes introduce participants to Rally obedience, a competitive sport that encourages handler communication and focuses on teamwork and precise heeling. Novice Rally introduces basic signs, while Advanced Rally covers higher-level signs. Rally Courses offer multiple runs on mixed-level courses. Novice Rally is 5 weeks for $100.00, Advanced Rally is 6 weeks for $120.00, and Rally Courses are $20.00 per session.
Drop-In Pet Training is available for teams already registered for or having completed an obedience class, offering help with specific issues for $20.00 per session. Private lessons are offered for dogs unable to attend group settings, providing customized training or problem behavior solutions at $50.00 for 30 minutes.
