P.U.P.S. Dog Training offers a variety of programs for different life stages and needs. Puppy Kindergarten is for pups 2-5 months, focusing on socialization, basic manners, and strengthening life concepts like confidence and impulse control, covering topics like potty training, biting, and chewing. Basic Obedience I is for all ages, teaching skills like loose-leash walking, come, sit, stay, down, and more.

Obedience II/Canine Good Citizen (CGC) prepares friendly dogs for the CGC test, focusing on interactions with other dogs and people, and includes the test fee. Obedience III/Community Canine/CGC-Advanced takes training into community settings like parks and campuses, preparing dogs for the CGC-A test.

Specialized classes include Reactive Dogs, designed for dogs with over-arousal towards various stimuli, requiring an initial consultation. Outdoor Walking Skills is a 3-week mini-series focusing on loose leash walking and heel position. Holiday Manners/Greeting Skills is another 3-week mini-series covering boundary training, impulse control around food, and calmer guest greetings. K9 Nosework is also offered, focusing on developing a dog’s drive to search and building confidence, suitable for all temperaments. Most group classes run for 5 weeks, with some mini-series running for 3 weeks.

Pricing & Policies

Pricing Summary

Private lessons cost $110 for 75-90 minutes, with a package of 5 lessons for $490. Remote consultations are $70/hour. The Puppy Primer virtual session is $60. Group classes are priced per program: Puppy Kindergarten is $165 for 5 classes, Basic Obedience I is $165 for 5 classes, Obedience II/CGC is $175 for 5 classes (includes CGC test), and Obedience III/Community Canine/CGC-Advanced is $165 for 4 classes (plus test on 5th week). Reactive Dog class is $25 per class after an initial $110 consultation. Outdoor Walking Skills and Holiday Manners/Greeting Skills are “Mini Series” 3-week classes for $99 each. Class fees are listed on the registration box and ‘Services Offered’ tab. Full payment is required to reserve a class spot.

Policies

Cancellations must be made within 72 hours of the class start date for a refund. For missed group classes, makeup sessions are not guaranteed due to student volume. Options for missed classes include joining another group session if a working dog spot is available, auditing any group class without the dog, applying one missed group class payment ($30) toward a private lesson ($90 total for private lesson becomes $60), or staying 15-20 minutes after the next scheduled class to catch up. Detailed homework with written instructions and often video is provided to help students.

P.U.P.S. Dog Training LLC, also known as Positively Unleashing Puppy Skills, is a dog training business founded in 2015 by Jenny Higgins. They use modern, reward-based, force-free, shock-free, choke-free, and pain-free methods to help owners build a strong, trust-based relationship with their dogs. The business aims to make each dog a valued family member through quality, science-based training.

Accomplishments

Jenny Higgins, the owner and head trainer, graduated from the Psychology department at the University of Florida in 2014, where she worked in the Canine Cognition and Behavior lab for two years studying behavior analysis. She completed a 2-year certification process to become a certified canine behavior consultant with Dognostics and the PPAB. She also holds the Professional Dog Trainer certification from the Council of Certified Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT). Jenny is an AKC CGC Evaluator and can administer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program, CGC, AKC Community Canine, and Urban CGC.

How to Get Started!

To register for a class, clients should click on the desired session on the calendar. If spots are available, a ‘Register’ button will appear, which leads to a short form and online payment. Full payment is required to reserve a class spot. For Reactive Dogs class, an initial consultation via email (pupsdogtraining@gmail.com) is required before registration. Private lessons can be scheduled via email. The Puppy Primer is a virtual session for those preparing for a puppy.
