About the Trainer
Tails University is a family-run dog training business founded in 2012 by certified trainer Paul Telthorster, who transitioned from horse training after rescuing his dog Baxter. They offer private lessons, group classes, on-campus boarding, and board-and-train programs designed to strengthen the bond between dogs and their humans by teaching owners how to “speak dog.” Their balanced training approach combines classical and operant conditioning, positive and negative reinforcement, and counter-conditioning to address behavioral issues and promote confidence. They also provide specialized services including service dog training, agility training, and behavior modification. Their new facility, currently under construction, will feature expanded training spaces, dog runs, individual boarding dorms, and a grooming area. They serve Grimes County, TX, and surrounding areas with a mission to reduce shelter surrenders by equipping owners with the tools for long-term success.
Every program is customized to the dog’s personality and goals, with training focused on real-world results. They emphasize consistency and follow-through, rejecting quick fixes, and provide clients with educational resources to support ongoing progress. Their team includes Paul as head trainer and Bekah managing operations, with three children involved in the family business.
They also offer graduation ceremonies to celebrate client achievements and provide customized training guides even after challenging interactions, reflecting their commitment to client support.
Accomplishments
Paul Telthorster has been a professional dog trainer since 2012, trained under Dan Linder at Action Dogs USA, and graduated from Animal Behavior College with a Dog Training Certificate. He has helped countless dogs and families over 12+ years and founded Tails University as a family-run business expanding into a new facility.
